I now am a true hater of boot viruses. I managed to contract the ancient yet in annoyin New York Boot virus.. it was goin round the systems @ my old school a couple of years ago, and i managed to get it thru in about with an old hard drive of mine (in someone elses system now) which i didnt realise had it... so.. ive had to cut my 3.5 gb mp3 collection down to about 1.5 so i could sling it on this other HD of mine... all because of my luck... goldenarmz also contracted it at the same time as me and it did nowt to his, but as soon as i got home and got my HD back in and stuff... bang goes the boot partition **unrecoverable**:(
so basically the moral of the story is this: dont be puttin your hard drive in other peoples systems without using protection:p
peace
p.s. btw incase u r worried coz u dowloaded one of those tunes i put up, dont, cuz it was ages after i put that up :) |

| Last year I got the win95.cih virus. I was getting lazy and didn't use any virus scanning software when I downloaded so I'm guessing I got it from some warez site. That stupid virus destroyed my motherboard forcing me to shell out $150 for it and when you got no job boy does that hurt. :( |

the only hardware viruses can damage is the hard drive. the rest is just blanked when you turn off ur computer so it has no chance of staying there. the only other thing that isnt blanked when u turn ur system off is ur CMOS chip which contains ur bios info and clock, and thats ROM not RAM. so basically u shelled out $150 for nowt...

Yea, a new cmos chip would only have cost u around $10 or £20 at most ;)

u wouldnt have needed a new cmos chip either... as i sed its ROM not RAM, read only. u didnt need a new anything. if u have a virus u cant get rid of, back anything u can up on zip/another hard drive (which u clean on its own later.. its easier to clean it before the virus actually does owt) and Fdisk ur hard drive and start from scratch. u will be able to tell when u format the hard drive whether or not the virus has done any serious damage to the drive.
