where to find those really underground new songs
View this Thread in Original format
montie
sorry about the title of this thread.
i was listening to James Holden's new Balance album which is absolutly amazing, and realized that i know barely any of the songs or the producers on there. i mean i know nathan fake - outhouse, Luke Chable's remix of PQM's You are sleeping, Ficta - Eli (which is also on James Zabiela's sound in motion), and i know of FC Kahuna.
now of course this is a great thing that mr. holden put together an awsome mix of all unknown songs (atleast to me), i was wondering why i can't seem to find any tracks similar to these.
I know that most of the tracks on this album are unreleased, but i've never even heard of most of these producers. most of the time when i see a new album i'll be able to recognize most of the songs on there or the producers.

when i pick up new stuff of dancerecords.com or chemical-records.com i never see stuff that is this sorta style nor this "unkown." must of the stuff i find there is pretty generic or more poppy. don't get me wrong i love the selection at these two stores which i shop at regularly, but what i'm trying to get at is if anyone knows of any stores out there where you can find less "mainstream" stuff (a very hard word to use here, since chem records and dancerecords do have a great selection of records that are anything than mainstream when compared to most of the stuff thats being played at poppy clubs out there).

i'm looking for record stores that have records that push the envelope more. one's where your not gonna find the new AvB track or the new release off of Yooshi, but ones your gonna find by those producers you've never heard of, nor will you hear of prolly ever again. stores that have more experimental music that will work well in dance environment.

*sigh
of course it doesn't matter where the song comes from. i never said it did.

All I'm saying is i wanna find some new record stores which have songs your not gonna normally find at the main vinyl stores. stuff thats electronic but more different than the normal prog, house, or trance tunes.
Like at most of the sites listed in the sticky at the top of this forum your not gonna find anything by Ulrich Schnauss.

very good question montie, i was wondering the same thing.

i pretty much use chemical and juno for all my orders. it does irk me a bit to see tunes i like, suddenly disappear and then reappear later on - this means

1) everyone else is buying the same tunes i am

but also good

2) i have somewhat decent taste??

the thing about chemical and juno is that they must get almost every promo/new release, so theres pretty much no chance of a tune being released, and them not picking up a copy. the only way i could see that happening was a promo sent directly to big DJ's...

so i think as long as you keep up to date with whats being released on the big internet sites (the ones with huge selection), you wont really miss any tunes that noone else has heard - because that doesnt tend to happen anymore does it...

one other point is that most people dont have the time to listen to every single tune that is released on these internet sites, so if you make the time to go through them ALL, you are getting ahead in that way.

You have to understand that djs like Holden, Armin, PvD and basically every other dj thats top25 in the world gets send tens of thousands of these promo releases that never make it.

Out of them they will maybe find 3 or 4 decent songs to include on their new albums.

Then, they get send special promos that no one else gets for awhile from decent artists, and from their they might find 3 or 4 decent songs to include on their new albums.

And then finally they get send new stuff from the top producers and pros and they get few songs from their too.... you get the point!

You wanna play music no one else plays you gonna have to do major research, coz if ur a nobody, then nobody will send you :P

montie
thanks for all the input guys. been checking out those site suggested.

and yeah i understand that alot of those guys like holden, avb, nick warren get sent tons of stuff all hte time that no one else will ever hear of.

your right. it takes tons of research. keep digging deep and listen to as many tracks as you can.

There are thousands of songs hidden away if you look hard, i found the deep dish mix of impressive instant by searching through about 7 sites and found it on my last site, after flicking through 14 pages of progressive songs. They are out there.
