| Apart from PvD and Ronski Speeds germany has nothing to offer, allot of the german trance is cheese IMO. I'd go for dutch, but still think that the brits are the best. |

well yeah, that's TA, posting useless .
all i mean is, why talk about countries when music is a universal feeling?
it doesn't matter from what country it's from, as long as it's good.
for all i care, the producer comes from Mongolia. as long as his music roxx |

Mirco De Govia = Ronski Speed...
There's some good german stuff out there (Ronski Speed, Blank & Jones, PVD maybe...) but in the end, it's Dutch for me. Armin, Tijs, Ferry, Gielen (ok, so he's from Belgium), Marco V, Gitelman, De Goeij & Bervoets... it just can't be argued with. |

I think that's a very naive way of thinking. Music is an universal feeling indeed. But music is still produced within regional contexts and circumstances, it develops around a certain scene. Ask any big time dj whether crowds around the world like the same styles and types of music and they'll probably say no, they usually cater to the specific scene's tastebuds. I've been lucky to have lived in the US, Latin America and Holland and to have travelled all over. I've been to many parties in all of these places with the likes of Tiesto and PvD at every country. They play different in each country.
In terms of production, no one can deny that in general, Dutch trance has a certain ethos which serves as a greatest common factor and makes it stand apart from German, British, Israel or whatever trance/edm. There's something VERY VERY Dutch about the melodies, the approach to synthesisation and structure and the general feel of tracks. And this goes from Marco V, Secret Cinema, Tiesto, Armin, Ferry, Ralphie B to Sander K and Junkie XL.
One could say the same about German trance. Even if PvD stands out as this universal music figure, his approach is very very German. Rigorous, flawless, very clean and sharp. You simply don't get that feeling in a Dutch trance set, even if PvD plays some Dutch trance or from anywhere else, his principal feel is always German. Same thing can be said about ppl as diverse as Cosmic Gate, Marc la Cruz, Westbam, Blank & Jones, Talla etc.
I remember during the last Love Parade that someone was complaining that Tiesto was not getting a primetime spot like PvD and the others. JPLOVEPARADE correctly commented that it was due to the fact that the predominant crowd of the Love Parade did not "understand" that kind of trance, Dutch trance.
Another example is Gabriel and Dresden. Although they have surely been influenced by a lot of European edm, their basic sound and feel is overwhelmingly American. Infusion and Adam Freeland also sound very Australian to me.
Differences are subtle and there are many overlaps and some exceptions, but regional differences do exist. Trance is appreciated differently in every country, therefore it would be naive to expect it all to sound the same. |
