Depends on where you want to draw the line between prog-house and straight-up house I guess. A lot of the really funky prog producers (I'm thinking Prawler, Flatline etc.) sound really housey upon first listen (due to the guitar rifts, loops etc.) but they've still got the deeper, driving progressive beat and twisted fx that you don't really find in straight-up house music. Then, coming from the other direction you've got the much funkier side of tech-house music (Pete Heller, Jon Carter, Blakkat etc.) that can be defined as "progressive" in a way as well.
I'm not particularly big on genre definitions so I'll leave it there, but I think you can have really funky "progressive" music (i.e. music that tries to "move forward" and stretch/break down genre barriers) while still retaining very funky, housey elements. Hope I'm making some sense here.

Yeah, Mike Monday's got that slightly cheesy "party-house" feel about him so he can be a bit hit and miss, but when he gets it right it's pretty hard not to wanna bop around to it.

Yeah, massive. Not really funky, but massive nonetheless.
On the other hand it got played by one of the warm-up DJs in the prog-room @ GK and one of my friends described it as "lullaby music". Hard to know what to think when someone puts it like that..... :nervous: |
