Im my opinion... proffessional dj's and audiences will always prefer vinyl over cd because spining vinyl is more of an artform.. But that doesnt mean that cd's wont be used.. i've seen many dj's play either their own promos, or even burnt tracks off the internet.. I also think that if cd's are to become big.. it will be in for domestic use. With more and more people getting access to the internet and buying cd burners... what's to stop a 16 year old kid from buyin a cheap pair of cd turntables and burnin all his tracks and learnin to mix..
I dont think cd will ever take over the scene totally, but expect it to be more prevelant in the future... |

thats mine and yevats point, how can a track full of "crackle" actually have better quality and crisper sound that clear, no-crackle digital?
Coup :) | hmm...yep on the average turntable, with an old lp you will get rice-bubbles playing with ur tunes
...but on quality equipment with a well cared for record, there is a much better sound produced...most people call it a warmer sound
of course, because cd is digitial, everyone thinks oh it's the bomb because it's an exact replication...well close, but it is still limited to a certain frequency response and bitrate/sample rate...with lp it's all analog...everything is captured.
it may not be as crisp sounding, but it is a more complete sound and always has a lot more character, feel & warmth than cd |

cd: digital - this means that they are 1's and 0's that means highs and lows.... and on a cd that is represented by little indents and non-indents....so any frequency between the 1 and 0 is missed out ....this is very small....u cannot hear it with the human ear..
on vinyl: analogue u get every frequency that is recorded...so its better quality
My physics teacher taught me this and i think he know what hes saying and my dad says so to and hes a (crazy)scientist.
but if the needle is ed than the quality is worse cause the needle is bad not the record....
I agree with infin....the rest DIESSSSSSSSS
VINYL TO DA BONE
(its just classic, vinyl)
If u spin cds u r a cd-gay.....well thats where i live..u have no respect if u use cds.
ANd its not true that cds will be thing of the future for djs...itll never be
Vinyl will always stay......foreva
If there is something for the future that will come closer to vinyl than cds...then that is mp3 |

if u miss the frequencies between 0 and 1 on a cd then how does a vinyl sound better with those frequencies encluded when u cant hear them in the firstplace!? |

my what ive read, ill say this: vinyl, "techniqually" has better sound, but only with a brand new vinyl and a kick ass neadle, and as vinyl looses quality after every play, it will only be better than cd the first 2-3 plays, cd however, may not have the frequencies, but as u cant hear them, it doest matter, so cd is constant high quality after every play, as a cd doesnt loose quality like a vinyl, and u dont need a really expensive reader to get the best quality. so by what ive read ill have to stick with cds having the better sound for the reason that a vinyl may have better sound the first few plays, but thats only with a kick ass neadle, cds dont loose quality so on the whole have better sound, and the things a vinyl has which the cd doesnt cant be herd neway so its not asif they actually matter. vinyl looses quality, cd doesnt.

ok... time to clarify some stuff...
CD sound is more crisp... but the drawback is that u miss certain frequecies of sound...
whereas vinyl... if using a good needle and assummin ur vinyl is clean and static free... has a more audible range of frequencies that can be detected by the human ear...
U cant really compare the 2. CD is clearer.. Vinyl is more "fuller" in sound.
I love vinyl though.. nothing beats it....:toothless :D :p |

i totally agree... with a good press, it'll beat out a cd any day..
the bass is a little more crisp, as well as with the highs...
it just sounds better
and i can attest to that... i work with analoge and digital all the time in school (i'm a radio student)
and i totally agree, with a clean head on the tape reel machine, your recordings have more body to them, instead of just recording to minidisc or something |
