Well the results will be official in less than 5 hours !!
BTW, I think this will be the first year Carl Cox is out of the Top 10, which means that it will be the first year without a techno DJ on the Top 10.
I don't think Tiesto will win, but he'll be on the top 3.
It will be between Sasha an PVD, why ?
Because this year the voting was more global, a lot of entries (like mine) were received online, so this time it trully will be a Global Top 100, not only a British top 100.
And Sasha and PVD have been the most succesful DJ's on a global basis. |

that dj mag is a load of bollox anyway & voted by little teeny boppers who dont have a clue about dance music that goes as far as the like of tiesto & pvd , so whats the fuss about? imo James Zabiela is the no.1 dj in the world at the moment. |

People think my first post was just an offset rant about tiesto. Then the little turds realize that it is backed my some evidence. I mean you see tiesto release close your eyes (big oakenfold fave), he went mad with remixing southern sun, he remixed street spirit. I mean how much closer is he getting to oakenfold daily? Trust me, you can only stay so long at the top of the world in the deejay ranks without suffering some misfortune. When tiesto completely crashes then my point will come true (I think it may be a while but everytime I look at it, they seem more similar). I have always thought that tiesto would end up like oakenfold and then reinvent himself and go back to the old tiesto of picking ace tracks, not remixing rubbish and mixing correctly and better than he has. |

About paul van dyk, I doubt it that he will win it, every year people vote him #1 and what happened the last 4 years? 4th....i just see him finishing 4th again.

That's true, he did crash and burn at the end of last year....But he came back stronger than ever. It's just that the big events that have been broadcasted are not really representative of his standard style in the clubs. I've seen Tiesto over 12 times in my life, 6 times alone in 2003. I really really think that Tiesto 2003 is more deserving of this award than Tiesto 2002.
Compare him to Oakey all you want, but Tiesto has always maintained his authentic and unique style and has never sacrificed that sound. I've been a hardcore Tiesto fan since early 1998, and still remain his supporter because I've witnessed and understood his artistic evolution, which I happen to agree with. Yes, he admires Oakey (as you said, anyone who doesn't give him the historic credit that he's due is a noob). Of course his going to be inspired by what Oakey did in the past. That is the norm in the art world. If you knew a thing about Van Gogh you would know that a lot of his portfolio is based on quoting, or the 'influence', that Rembrandt and other great artists of the past had on him. Yes, Tiesto has crashed and burned and played some pretty mediocre sets. But his artistry has never been sacrificed, and his tracklistings as well as his productions keep getting more mature and complex with time. I can't say the same about any other trance dj.
As genres, I much prefer prog, techno, breaks and even dnb because I think that 90% of trance is too stale, formulaic and ultimately mediocre. But Tiesto is one of the few exceptions, and he has taken the message to the masses, which is why he deserves to win this POPULARITY contest. Yes, people like James Zabiela and Lee Burridge are amazing djs with very impressive skills. But their impact as artists in the global scale is not nearly enough for comparing them with the djs in the Top10 such as Carl Cox, Oakenfold, PvD, Tiesto and such. Even if they ARE better djs (according to YOUR taste), there's NO way in hell to empiricize that.
If this wasn't a popularity contest and it was based solely on dj skills then where the is QBERT? Where is Mixmaster Mike? Why is Andy C so far behind? All of these guys have much more technical skill than any dance dj, that's not even a question.
So the popular vote is based on subjective tastes of the general clubbing public (with most votes coming from the home of DJ MAG0-UK), but it IS a general public that is "in the know". If it was based on purely commercial mainstream appeal then we would see Sammy, Darude, IvD, Lasgo and company in the Top 10, but they're not even in the poll aren't they?
My point is, this poll is not representative of either 'technical' skill and not representative of commercial mainstream appeal either. It's a poll that judges djs from a 'clubbing' perspective, and the results are fairly balanced in that sense. |

You can go on and on and on about how great your ing hero is but it still won't change my opinion about it. He is more like paul oakenfold everyday and it is NOT my fault if you cannot see it. I'll just wait till he completely crashes and burns then laugh in your face and say I told you so.
See it does not bother me that you like a deejay, it bothers me when people are so blind to see the reality of the situation.
btw andy c will end up top 30 again this year.
mixmaster mike and q-bert frankly don't give two s about a deejay contest. |
