As if it wasn't bad enough to get flesh eating disease once this year, i have it again! WTF?? I have these huge swollen red patches on my leg and they are tender and sore.:( Since i recognized the symptoms from last time i went to the hospital right away and caught it soon enough to avoid IV, or worse, leg amputation! :nervous: But now im on another batch of anti-biotics that make me sick. So is this common? Has anyone else ever had this or am i just "special"?

Dear Doctor,
I have had a recurring folliculitis on my forearms and underarms for the past year. I was prescribed a short course of a single oral antibiotic last year (four times) which did not get rid of it. So my doctor added rifampin (600 mg a day for ten days). This cleared it up but then it came back.He thought it would not recur after this.
I work out regularly at the gym and wearing long sleeves and using a towel does not help. I use an antibacterial soap but nothing seems to work. I do not carry the staph in my nose as I had it tested. My last viral load was 17,000 and my t-cells were above 500. I am not on any therapy. This has been really frustrating as the bumps can get really itchy and sometimes appear as large raised deeply red or purple lesions studded with pus-filled bumps.
Is there anything topical or another drug I can try to keep this from recurring?
Many thanks for such a wonderful site and resource for information.
JCH

you are special and unique... celebrate the fact that no one else on TA has a flesh eating bacteria except you...
heh, on a more serious note...
hopefully it doesn't get too bad... just keep taking those pills until it hopefully goes away... cuz losing a leg... man that would suck a lot
btw, is it just you that gets these bacteria or does anyone else in your family have a history of getting that? |

| it's just me so far! i don't know what the hell is wrong with me this year, i have gotten alot of infections, a really bad viral infection that took 3 months to get over was probably the worst. I also found out last week that i am now lactose intolerant which is also odd for my family. I am also partially colour blind which DOES run in our family but is very rare in women. Maybe my body just hates me this year?:whip: |

wiener's avatar is awsome :)
anyway, a staph skin infection? that is very rary. staph normally attacks your throat and leads to a strep throat.
you said you were having quite a few health problems lately? you could have a very low white blood cell count. i would get a blood test done right away and have them check your levels. |
