have any of you had to deal with girlfriends (or boyfriends) getting jealous of people coming to talk to you in the dj booth at clubs or parties?
my girlfriend had a fit tonite over girls asking for songs and talking to me in "the booth" at this little bar/ club that i dj at every once in a while. its a small venue (50 -100 people) so people come up regularly to ask for songs or just to say hi or whatever, long story short, my girlfriend freaks out at the end of the night cause when the lights come on this girl asks if i have a pen. i havent talked to this girl (the pen chick) at all tonite, and dont know her or why she wants a pen..... n-e-ways, i dont have one so i am like "no, i'm sorry, i dont" my gf assumes its cause she wants to give me her number, or get mine...blah blah blah,
anybody else in this boat, or is it just me |

hehe, one thing I did notice once was a dj didn't get pissed when I was hitting on his g/f. There was a small hole-in-the-wall bar with like 13 people, one was his g/f with the nicest hugest ass in the world. So I was hitting on her and dancing with her righ tin front of him. Ended up talking with him about djin at nights end.
I guess it all depends on the g/f, none that I know of get jealous at their dj b/f's. But I can see it happening. They just have to calm down a bit and all is good. |

It's our job to flirt. A dance floor has a lot of sexual energy. If you can play on it do so. I must add that there is a difference between becoming a good entertainer and a sleeze bag.
Jelousy is a pain in the arse and can be a very destructive emotion.
In my experience it is often best to leave the g/f out of the DJ part of your life. My g/f never really comes along when I DJ. No aggrovation for her seeing me act like an arse and visa versa.

have to say, funny ass stories, haha
i dont dj anywhere outside my friend's house
(dont have my own decks because i cant afford yet)
but this girl im with get's crazy sometimes just
because i go out clubbing and dont come back till
next morning. (her parents are very protective of
her and don't let her go clubbing, even tho she's
frickin 18). she even said one of these days when
i tell her to come to a club with me, she'll say
no, that her parents won't let her, so she can
show up at the cloub and "catch me with all those
other girls that i have all over me".
i keep wondering what girls it is she's talking
about, because i certainly wasnt aware i had girls
al over me...
damnit, women are crazy... |

| my girl doesn't get too jealous. she knows the score. there was this one time though when i was in the middle of a headline spot and i had her passing out some cds of mine around the club. some girls were really rude to her. she walked by and they called her a bitch and a skank (reverse jealously i guess). anyway she walk right up to the dj booth (which was elevated above the dance floor and you could see it from everywhere in the club). when she got up there the girls who were calling her names were watching her. she told me who they were and what they did. i pointed right at them from the booth while talking to the security guard in the booth and you should have seen the look on their faces. they couldn't apologize quicker. it was so funny because they kissed her ass the rest of the night. they got owned big time. my girl was really cool about the whole thing. she didn't blame me for their actions or make a scene about it. the point of the story is there are cool girls out there, you just have to find them. she does get jealous sometimes but it's not because of the girls, it's because i have to spend so much time spinning and stuff but she knows it's something i have to do. cheers. |

I'd be flattered if my g/f got jealous when other girls came up to the DJ Booth...of course there is a very thin line between being just a litte jealous and getting all obsessive about it. I think you should have a talk with your g/f and tell her that she has nothing to worry about, and that if she can't handle it being a part of your job, then I'm sorry, but that leaves you no other choice than to dump her...
I hope you'll get it all sorted out :) |
