Are monitors loud enough for house parties? I picked up Alesis Mk2 monitors and an Alesis RA amp.

Right now i just use my hi fi stereo which isn't loud at all and gets distorted. The reason i ask is because the dimensions of the monitors aren't much larger than my hi fi speaks.
VIO
nope, sorry. monitors for studios and club speakers for playing out. cheers.

size doesnt matter

It probably depends on how good you want the sound to be. I have done small house parties (fraternity) with a pair of JBL monitor speakers.

Ive done some parties with just one monitor speaker also...

I think it would depend on the size of the hall or room that you are setting up in.

small room = probably be ok and get away with using the monitors...

big room = prob sound like
DjJade
i think the number of people is just as..if not more important than the size of the room.
SUNWmsf
true...

High ceilings / big room = sound is compromised and need bigger speakers.

A lot of people = people absorb/block the sound waves which means the sound is also compromised.

what are good "club" speakers to get for small venues?
skinnypup80
the room is like 30 ft by 10 ft with low ceilings (basement)

prolly won't be more than 50 people there

this f'n BLOWS if it's not gonna be loud even with the amp
DjJade
are you talking abotu the ones that have the 6.5" woofers? even with 120 watts especially at 88db sensitivity... those wont be nearly enough

i would suggest something like the jbl eon or mackie equivalent at the very least...10 or 15 inch with some kind of sub for a SMALL venue.
skinnypup80
will they at least be louder than my magnavox bookshelf stereo?

DjJade
yeah they will get pretty loud... but the bass response isnt gonna be antyying if youregonna use it for a veune. you need a sub or soemthing..
skinnypup80
whats a venue?

i wouldnt consider my basement a venue
