Ive been listening to Trance non stop for the last 3 years now, and im sure youll agree that the style has rapidly changed, but over the last year or so, ive seen very little moving and happening in trance.. Paul van Dyk seems to have repeated the same stuff over and over again, the number of times ive heard people talk about ATRC (ok good tune.. fact, but theres been nothing since)..and im finding myself liking more and more House.. Perhaps its because im getting older and im getting to the stage when some kind of transition takes place, it happened to my bro when he was 21, after he was the one who got me into trance! Maybe its cos ive only listened to trance in the last 3 years and listened to nothing but. What I'm trying to say is that I just can't see trance moving on, like it has done so much in the past. Is it facing a fall? Your opinions.. :nervous:

Trance is neither rising or falling

its constantly evolving into new, heavier and darker sounds.

i guess it all depends on your tastes too. We dont have epic anthems like we did in 1998 and 1999. Trance is more layered and melodic today. I dont know where its going to go, but i sure as hell hope it doesnt stop

Compared to last year and the year before i think trance on the whole has been much better this year and i think that its had a bit of a resurgence. I love trance but when i go out clubbing i also enjoy listening to house and breakbeat. I cant see myself not loving trance until it ceases to be.

I dont think it will be as "epic" or as popular as it used to be but i reckon it will always be here as long as there are people there to enjoy the music

Trance is most definately changing. I listened to my old Ibiza Euphoria (the orange one mixed by Matt Darey) over the weekend, and it sounded surprising old to me. A lot of tracks just didn't age well, with the uplifting style just sounding cheesy to me now (though I loved it back in the day), as the trance movement as a whole has gotten darker and more complex (though they're not strictly trance, a clear example of this is a comparison between Hybrid's Wide Angle and Morning Sci-Fi albums; the newer one is so much darker). One track was still amazing though: Solar Stone's Seven Cities (Atlantis Mix) is still awesome.

That's very true. All of those Ibiza Euphoria Ministry bull compilations from the past sound so stale nowadays. I would even say the same thing about most trance compilations out there, they just don't age well enough with time the same way Northern Exposure or most of the GUs do. However, for me there is one exception. And that is the whole Magik series and pretty much every compilation done by Tijs, those age like fine wine and are a perfect example of Tiesto's class and taste done the humanist-artistic way (live tt mixing). I can't say the same about even Tranceport by Oakey or the Armin 00 whatever series (even Boundaries of Imagination sounds stale to me nowadays, while something like Magik 1 or Forbidden Paradise 3 is just perfect). Much less can I say that about Ferry's Ministry compilations. Those just don't age well. POD maybe ages well for some, but that compilation is on a league of its own.

Im not saying its not good, im just saying its getting a bit repetitive and not moving on at all. Its like how many of u can honestly say that your best trance track has come in the last year??

People will always say that the past was better, for me trance has improved greatly, the quality of tracks out this year has been very very good, but still not up to the glory days of 1999;)

There are some very good oldies and sometimes I hear some of the worse tracks ever now, but my opinion is that trance is getting better...
