Speaking of Michael Moore

Ok I just wanna know becasue the other day on the train I was having anarguement with a whole bunch of americans. I'm just wondering if this a common view with most Americans. We were talking about Michael Moore...( I think he's an idiot by the way) and we got onto the subject of him at the Academy awards. Now I couldn;t believe this.. they all said that it was disrespctful and way opur of line for him to speak out on stage at the awards. My friends said that it wasn't the time or the place for that sorta thing. Now I said that is exactly the time and place for that sort of thing. A bunch of rich people patting themselves on the back for what a good job they have done.

Now I am not a Michael Moore fan ..hippocrit...but kinda of a genius... I think it is a perfect time because it gets people thinking that might not actually hear what he has to say any other time. My friends said he should stick to cnn or debate shows or whatever.

Do you think it is the time or the place?

i rather enjoyed it  but thats just me, i like a bit of a laugh and some confrontation. I dont see it as a moral issue, "Oh was it the right time ya think?" WTF does it matter! hes just stating his opinion not breaking the news to the children that they were concieved thru sex and not delivered via stalk....

It was proper, and perfect. So far his right, this was a BS war, wheres the WMDs? also Bush didnt win the election, the florida supreme court put him in office.

Anyone else notice how much louder the boos were in the news replay of the event, compared to the actual event. plus points for the right wing echo machine! :(

i laughed

he can say what ever he damn well pleases up there
just as any other person who could get up there and spout off how much they think that what we are doing in iraq is true and noble

"ooooh its not the time or place"
who cares?

i say lots of stupid stuff in the wrong time and place :p

I can't stand the guy either, but he certainly has a right to free speech and to his opinions. I think the part I didn't like was that he got a bunch of people to come up on stage that didn't know what he was going to say and basically spoke for them. Then again, they took the risk of standing on stage with him. He's allowed to say whatever he wants--doesn't make him anymore right or wrong or intelligent for that matter.

To me, I think it was the most opportune moment for him to speak. Millions of Americans watch the Academy Awards, and what better way is there to get a message across than by doing it then? He probably would not have any other chance except for in his movies.

as for the speech. i think it was uncalled for, but not because of the time and place.

only because his speech was supposed to be against the war, but then he brought up issues about Bush's characteristics, personality and actions completely outside of the frame of the war - ie bitching about the election. its not that he was incorrect in some of the aspects, he just amalgamated all his opinions into one rant and ended up alienating people that were against the war - but not living in the past in regard to the election and whatnot.

it was out of the ordinary and somewhat interesting in that regard, but mostly he just came off as a convoluted windbag as he occasionally does|

I thought he was a jackass for using the opportunity to exercise his right to free speech while he critisized the people who were exercising their rights to free speech in booing him. Then saying the Oscars upped the volume of the boos or whatever

Speaking of Michael Moore, I'm reading his book called "stupid White Men". I greatly enjoyed the book up until the part where he starts talking about the economy. This guy is really nothing but a ed up conspiracy theorist. He's convinced we're not in a recession right now, he thinks that stpud white men who are the CEO's of major corporations are just telling us that we're in a recession so that they can make money without us knowing it. Wow, this guy has some major issues to work out, or he just SHOULDN'T talk about the economy. MIKE, DON'T TALK ABOUT THE ECONOMY!!!!

People say they hate him and that hes a nuta when they see what he did on tv. THats fine cuz what he did on tv wanst all that smart. I think he could have made a better statment. However i have listened to his debates/speeches/rants and i must say he does have some points. I woulndt have listened to them if his name wasnt a buz word in the news so i think it was the right time and the right place for his cause anyway.

I think he's an intelligent man but now he sees himself as some sort of crusader. That in itself isn't a bad thing since he is allowed to speak his mind, but I get the impression that he's full of himself and that he knows that HE has all the answers. Just watch the special features on 'Bowling and you'll see what I mean.
