Non Political for the most part but very troubling.

I felt compelled to post this. I am black and noticed that I have seen a couple of my French Canadian friends who I have nothing against make statements related to me being black or in reference to blacks that was not simply a matter of politics alone. I find this ironic because as I look through this forum the overwhelming majority of people stick to political issues in their responses when I post a topic. I have now changed my avatar and am intrigued to see how they conduct themselves from here on out, since they won't have the ablity to demonstrate their broad generalizations about an entire race. I posted this primarily because it disturbed me a lot since I look at myself as someone who is vehemently disgusted by racism or stereotyping of people based on race, I have made it clear to these couple of individuals that I care for none of their positions if it is personal. I am here to discuss politcs not to be insulted about race. This statement only applies to a couple of people and they know themselves, I look forward to speaking with the rest of you in a courteous manner on political issues. Thank you.

Good for you. Sucks that you felt like you needed to change your avatar. It would seem to me that most people on this board see through that sort of bull and you could just as well ignore those that offend you. Oh well, I've enjoyed your posts and don't see why your cultural background should be an issue aside from giving you a broader perspective on some issues.

Hey Shakka thanks a lot man. I changed the avatar so the issue of race could be kept out of my posts in any response that is made. My problem is not with people attacking any political issue that I post, that is expected, but to generalise an individual immediately because you see someone is black in reference to a certain discussion is plain ignorant on the part of these individuals.

Were they people on tranceaddict?

Who the are these racist pieces of ?

God...

I went to Ottawa the other week to get an Iranian passport so i could see the nation where I was born... (my dad is persian and my mom Russian/Turk). I went to a local photo shop and this caucasian lady, french canadian... made a comment about Terrorists after i asked to see myself in the mirror so i dont look horrible in the picture. She replied... "oh dont worry... anyone can be a terrorist these days" I know she wasnt being out right racist or negatively commenting.. but the fact that she brought up terrorism after she found out i was getting an Iranian passport, and it not being related to me wanting to look at the ing mirror, was what bothered me.

Why would she bring it up.. i just want to look at myself before i took the picture,.

Afterwards... i asked her agressively what she meant by that... and she kinda got nervous... i think she was just trying to be as nice as possible and it to make me feel better, but didnt understand that it was way out of context during the circu, stance. Her comment wasnt mean, it was the fact that it didnt fit into the situation, and it was brought up.

Oh well.. she certainly felt awkward afterwards...

NYC.. im sorry you had to change your pic.. those racists.

Mentally occupied, as usual, I notice nothing until something drastic takes place.
I used to think that it was cool that your avatar actually was a picture of yourself. I hope the change does not relate to ILoveDave's comments in that other thread.
Btw. what is the hidden meaning by the Swiss flag?

Cyrus, I agree with you, that was my point all along, why utilize stereotypes of people in such a setting. The individuals that I am bitching about were a couple of numbskulls on TA, but trust me if you look through the posts you will easily ID them, because they don't stick to politics but jump to phrases like "all you blacks" and "go listen to Snoop Doggy Dog" etc. Statements that clearly say what they mean and mean what they say. These comments would never have been made if my pic wasn't there because they would have had no clue that I was black in the very first place, after all I should be in a Snoop Doggy Dog forum spitting game to bitches and hoes. Oh you gotta love the genius of it all. :haha:

I found it rather strange that someone I have never met in my life, would immediately post such a commentary as ILoveDave did, but I quickly ignored that, then along came some other clown who decided that I was a whining black American, in the ghettos that were better than Serbia or Russia, who needed to stop blaming Europeans for the "wrongs" because millions of dollars had been given to Africa and I never lived in the third world. All in a post where I clearly stated that I did not support affirmative action but instead a stronger public school system for innercity kids. I proceeded to quickly show him how foolish his general commentary was because I was in fact from a third world country in South America. The rest is history.

As for the Swiss flag I figured that I would go with something neutral:haha: :haha: . Actually I am a huge fan of Switzerland and my girlfriend and I will eventually move there, primarily I am just big on European culture and languages, and as you know the Swiss have their fair share of languages. Three of which I speak French, German and Italian, only Rumantsch left to learn. My beef is that I just hate to even have to engage in race discussions-and I use that term loosely, but maybe I am a dreamer to think that everyone would do the same.

NYC, dood you take things very personal, dont worry about it, so what. I hate racism and have had some very bad experiences from it being a minority in the countries i lived in, infact thats why my family fled the country we were born in, but that a story for another time.....
You can instantly assume that a person who makes such remarks is an ignorant idiot probably some redneck who hasnt had much exposure to cultral diversity.
Remember "No one can insult you without your permission". And i can tell from your posts u take this place VERY serously, its just a forum man, who cares.......
NYCTrancefan
Eh, you're probably right, I just hate for people to not stick to politics or within the context of it in such a setting. But like you said ignorance is bliss. I'll just ignore them from now. Once again its only a couple of people not the 99.9% of folks in here.

By the way Prodigal, what country was that? I'm interested in different cultures, guess that is why I tend to take things so serious
DrUg_Tit0
Hehe, I must admit that I too thought you were just an average black guy from the big city, and was pretty surprised when I saw you use german and french. I guess I too have some racist stereotypes in me of which I'm not even aware of...

Yoepus
i agree in away with Drug Tito.

Everyone has a general sterotype of generalization of other people they haven't met, even if they believe they know this is untrue.

I have one other black friend from Colombia, and he shares many untraditional "black" views as well, and when I speak to him politically I have almost come to neglect his race as any factor, because he has neglected it in any political discussion we make.

Its the same with you I believe, I for one liked your avatar because it showed us you were black, and you do not fit the sterotype, it allowed people to doubt their conventions and "what they've been told" and see for themselves on an individual basis the opinions of others. But then again I guess Switzerland is cool too - I have a good friend there, but I don't know how the hell you plan to live there, Citizenship is like WAY hard to get, even harder then some Arab countries like the UAE I believe.:D

Oh yes, I know about the citizenship takes like a decade of living in a particular Canton, and in the cantons in true Swiss democratic fashion you vote on wether someone can become a citizen or not. Its primarily a place I would like to reside in from a diplomatic standpoint, working in foreign affairs or with an international agency that is headquartered there that deals with Human Rights or along that line of work.
