| I used to have a NES... at the age 8 or 9 category i think Nintendo rules, past that things get cloudy. I don't predict much more PS2 take up, i reckon they are pricing too high, and loads of ppl are holding out for Xbox or GameCube -GameCube will be less expensive? and more powerful and Xbox will be way more powerful +PS2 games are (by and large) in the "e" category -but with a few very notable exceptions. If Xbox turns out good within 6months of release in UK, then I will buy it, cause i want a no fuss games machine in addition to my PC. (but the Voodoo 3 3000 is ageing and could to with upgrade to a 300 quid Geforce3... tough call really) |

There is NO WAY that a computer today could produce the graphics that Gran Turismo 3 has. There is a car on that game that has that color change paint & , really cool.

XBox= $300
Gamecube= $200

LMAO! I am 80% sure that XBox will fail (20% unsure because Microsoft has only 1 thing backing it up: Money)! The Japanese people don't want anything to do with it. The way I look at it, XBox will be like Dreamcast; it will stick around for awhile but it will be overlooked by PS2 & Gamecube (mostly PS2).
As for developers...u have no idea how many developers there are for Sony! I had NO clue there were that many developers under Sony till my friend showed me a chart w/ all of them on it.
And for great games...I've only seen 2 or 3 that I was interested in, and those games have been on previous systems (sequels, and I think u were the one that complained about PS2 having too many sequels.) Anyway, those games were Dead or Alive 3, Jet Grind Radio Future (Originally a SEGA game). |

so u think everyone has this spec?? if they built games with just that machine in mind they would kick ass ,, but when u read the box for the games it usually says Pentium 2 or higher..
need i say anymore ?? |

I only have PIII 500 w 128mb & Voodoo 3 3000, and yet even that can produce better graphics than any PS2 game i have played, at a frame rate of 50fps.
There are already games that my PC has problems playing without turning some (lots) of visuals off to maintain framerates. So I recon with penguin is right, admitidly even the most advanced games aren't going to need the performance his PC offers, but they can sure use it! Just bump the resolution up to 1200 by 1600 and you instantly have even better graphics than before. Also think about howmany more people own PCs than consoles. Each PC (near enough) is a potential customer to the developers, so there are many more games for PCs and some of the best ones as well (the versatility of keyboard and mouse, not to mention most forms of gamepad known to humanity are a certain plus for gameplay and so forth) also games for PC's tend to enter at 30 pounds for UK. For The consoles they enter the market at about 50 pounds. (and they're harder to copy :D)
And what if the developer has overlooked some essential bit of the game... there's no way you are going to get a patch for most of these games and consoles... let alone a FREE patch. And you aren't going to get nice people producing new modifications and extras for these games either, and there's no where near as much fiddling around you can do. (in some peoples minds that's a plus.)
When i was talking about the Game cube and said cheaper? i meant cheaper? than the PS2. (another reason why ps2 may get less customers.) and i think i'm right. PS2 is 270 or so pounds here. and gamecube shouldn't be released at more than 250. (probably about 200)
After much pondering I think the Gladiac or Gainward Geforce 3 is where my money is going. |

no way man,, i always play CS aka counter strike with say judge jules live qontact , dj hitchhiker show me heaven,, up full running around a map and blowing people away its the best ... loving it ,,
Pc's just have way to much grunt these days the graphics cards are becoming more and more powerful 64 meg on board graphics card at some insane res match that with RD ram and a 800 Mhz plus pentium or AMD .. you cant go wrong ..
anyway the Xbox is just a pc .. its got a TNT graphics chip i think with a p3 and also running a scaled down version of windows ... pah and i also hear to write games for this is a real bitch like harder than any other game consol ..
as for Squaresoft i cant wait for final fantasy in say 3 or 4 years time when the specs for computers is so high that there games will allow for detail that is so real.. without the chunks of games today,, hey they do look good but when its just about at photo realistic level,, then VR comes into ah ah ok im gonna shut up lol.. |

Another thing why pc are better
Internet
i can play most strategy games with 7 other guys, in consols up to 3
first shoters u can play up to 30 in 1 game, with consols only 4 ppl can ppl
and what about online games like uo, everquest, anarchy online
and consols are way to far from that, they are developing this add-ons, that of course will be an extra $75, but it will be in 56k, and i will need the telephone(got cable for internet) |

How the hell did this thread get into a console vs. PC thread? The downside to PC: u have to install every game onto your hard drive, something you don't have to do w/ console :p Another downside: Screen size; most people have bigger TVs than computer monitors. PCs are also more expensive than consoles (by more than $1000), how much do some of the PC systems that some of you are talking about cost?
My point: PCs and consoles are 2 totally different things. The only person who wants them to be the same is Bill Gates and he thinks he can jump right into the gaming world and re-write the rules of console gaming. Another point you people seem to be missing when talking about games is gameplay, most of you have been talking about graphics...gaming in not 100% about graphics. |

| I agree game play is important, but we aren't talking about it because the games aren't out yet. The game play is up to developers, and assuming there will be games with excellent gameplay all around (there will be!) then the next most important thing is how the game looks. Besides a PC offers far more versatility as far as gameplay goes (any number of perhiperals can be added on, and keyboards are excellent devices in their own right, which few consoles use. |
