11-28-03---- Sharon Apple Closer - New Synthetic Vocalist Software Debuts
The UK company, Zero G, has announced it will market a new computer software titled VOCALOID (licensed from Yamaha) which will allow users to construct synthesized vocal tracks in a number of vocal "fonts", these fonts are composed of artificial male and female personalities. A male vocalist, LEON, and a female vocalist, LOLA, will be launched at the NAMM show in L.A., 15 - 18 January, 2004. A third vocalist, MIRIAM, will be launched at Frankfurt Musik Messe, 31 March - 3 April, 2004. These vocalists can sing any words in English and sound like a professional singing voice. A Japanese company, Crypton, the only other licensee of Vocaloid is currently developing a female Japanese font. How true to life are the vocals? Listen for yourself at Yamaha's Audio Demo section here

They sound pretty strange @ first, but I can get use to it hehe Still in early stages I guess.
And "Sharon Apple" that the headline is reffering to is a character in the anime Marcoss Plus. Sharon is an artificial pop-star - her vocals were completely digital/binary/artificial yet amazingly beautiful.

:D
whiskers
that's nice, now "MTV song clone maker" software can incorporate custom vocals :D
kewlness
that's great, now we don't need christina aguilera and Nelly anymore

That's almost perfect! The first song (Kimi no uwasa) is very beautiful, and if it weren't for some unnatural/fixed sounds, it would sound 100% human.

Hopefully now the emphasis in pop music will go back to the music, and not to who's singing it :)

I dunno, I'd think that artificial singing just wouldn't be the same, wouldn't have the same emotion and unique feel to it... I could be proved wrong though.

Wow, I expected some weird voices going out of tune, but I'm amazed, it's not perfect, but it's getting there :eyes:

Okay, so it's only good for pop music, as that has no uniqueness and/or emotion.
