hahah, ferry might play commercial stuff, but it's his own commercial stuff, like punk and rock your body rock (both of which in my opinion are sweet songs). but if u listen to oakenfold he's been blasting a lot of alternative remixes and stuff....
nirvana vs. adam freeland - smells like freeland (adam freeland remix)
seven/standing nation army
and not to mention his soso remix of underworld which is nothing compared to the original or the 2003 re-edit by rick smith himself.
i'll admit ferry played the oakie remix of underworld at HOB, and it drove the crowd crazy, but it was nothing compared to when he played punk or rock your body rock. when u go to see ferry corsten, it's like watching a rock show. i'm not really there to dance, i'm just there to watch an artist perform, u know sing along with the lyrics (or the melody in this case). and at HOB when he closed with barber's strings for adagio (his most famous remix, probably the tune that brought him to the forefront of the scene) i almost died...
i gotta agree with my man trancer here.....oakey doesn't come close to ferry corsten anymore. oakey was god back when he spun cds like tranceport, but now it's just like........meh. don't get me wrong, i still like listening to oakie, but he has lost his importance in my book. |

| Oakenfold is trying to change his image from a dj to being an artist. that's why he is experimenting with different styles. his next cd is gonna be mostly rock & alternative. i'm not too excited about it, but we'll see what happens. |

I'm going to see Oakie too. Who knows! Oakenfold's DJ career may end in the next few years because of his age, whereas Ferry Corsten may be around for years to come.
Besides, TAO is more of a rave event which I hate to admit but my taste for this type of scene is fading away. I'm more into the 21+ clubbing scene. It's where I belong now.
Some of you may be thinking why I'm choosing Oakenfold over Digweed. I guess it's because of the loaction. Being in the Westin Bonaventure hotel for the first time. The party itself is going on for 48 hours. Besdies I hear that Giant has been voted as the #1 21+ club for NYE so I can't go wrong with that.
If I was under 21 then I'd probably be @ TAO. All you TA's have a great New Years Eve, wherever it may be. |

Oakenfold isn't trying to change. He's changed. A lot of DJs evolve into different genres or styles. Oakenfold got a big head and start playing whatever he wanted, not caring about the crowd. And that's his major problem - he has a god-like ego problem. Next time I see him put his hands in the air and come down like in a prayer, I am going to throw something at him. I _HATE_ how he'll turn down the ing music to get people to clap at him. I HATE DJs THAT DO THAT . ARRGGHHH. *OK, 13-year-old-like rant over *
Oakenfold actually was playing some good stuff earlier this week. Lated about two weeks, then he went back to his crap.
Oakenfold is not and artist and will never be an artist. That's unless he gets his head out of his ass.
As for crowds, yeah I TOTALLY prefer the 21+ club crowds over 18+ or All Ages crowds. I'm going to TAO because of three reasons. 1) I get in for free, VIP access (open bar). 2) Still has a darn good lineup, and 3) My girlfriend wants to go to it and well and it's going to be her night.
I am actually very amused by all ages events, because I can just stand there and LLAUGHH soo much if the music is bad. I like how retarded the candy ravers look in their piles getting their light shows on. Note I don't have issues with people "rolling" if they now how to contain themselves and not act stupid, but the piles just make me go "HAHA, YOU ARE RETARDED!"
Thank you, good day. :) |

Did u have like a personal chat with him or something? :p The man actually loves all kinds of music... from hip hop, to classical, to rock. So he isn't going to stick with only trance/prog/house just because a majority of his fans are into that style only. :toothless |

I totally understand what you mean. And that's why albums from DJs often sound quite different than what you hear them play. It's their chance to explore.
Saying that, it doesn't bother me that Oakey is trying other stuff in the studio. But people don't go to listen to his horrible remixes of hip-hop. I actually like hip-hop (sans country, I like just about everything), and I have to say...his hip-hop remixes suck. Heck, most of his remixes outside pure-EDM are terrible.
Oakey plays what he wants and only what he wants from the beginning of his sets. He should be starting off adjusting to what will get the crowd into him and stuff...then once he has them, start experimenting and hope the crowd goes along with it. The issue here is that most crowds don't go along with it. That's why DJs LOOOVEEEE Montreal, Toronto, etc....because the crowds are SO willing to let them experiment.

When it comes down to it Joakenfold is a sell out that is trying to capitalize on his reputation (which is a y one). When I party the last thing I want to hear is some cheezy remix of some pop artist. When the main stream media is done molesting him who will he turn to? I don't give a what he listens to as long as the man produces good . My taste in music has evolved and his catering for the main stream kissfm fans just doesn't cut it for me. Just listen to Bunka, that was the biggest piece of album. Incorporating the different genres of music just made it mediocre.
Even after all this trash talk I'll most likely be dancing my ass of during his set ;) |

| Reasons I chose TAO over Giant. I'd rather see 3 world class trance DJs: JooF, Jules, and Fergie (even though he spins HH), than 1 (mostly prog oakey). I also like the whole underground feel of raves to the conglamo feel of clubs. I kind of like the atmosphere even though it takes tons of drugs to create it. Not that I support drug use but it does make for a different experience. Can't wait for it. |
