OK...I must admit...I thought I would be laughing my ass off at all the dumb kiddies being stupid like I was at Monster Massive....but TAO was great for the most part (read on to see what "for the most part). Maybe it was me being up front the whole night away from the piles (if there were any, not sure)...and I wasn't asked ONCE if I was rolling (note, I was asked at least 15-20 times at Monster Massive).
The vibe was awesome. The party was great.
Anyhow, I am glad I went...especially with teh girl....we had a kick ass night.
John '00' Fleming
As far as J00F goes, HE DID PLAY. Again, he did play...although only for an hour. He played from 10pm - 11pm. I was sure I saw him up there spinning for a bit, and I just checked with a contact at Go Ventures to make sure I wasn't seeing things. And it was confirmed to me...he did play. I dunno why he didn't play from 9pm - 10pm, too, but it could have been a number of things from flight delays, cancelled flights, etc...I will work on finding out exactly why, but it's not too important to me.
As for as GV screwing anyone, J00F was confirmed for the timeslot 9pm-11pm. After some confusion with J00F's personal gig list saying he was playing in Turkey on NYE, confirmation was received by someone around here from J00F's manager....stating that his Turkey gig was cancelled because of security issues or something and confirmed he was playing in LA and stuff.
Judge Jules
With Judge Jules...I gotta say, he blew me away! I've seen him play some nasty chunks in the past, but jeeezzzuuusss he was blazing. He had the crowd going. The two hours he played is all a blur to me....well, I mean..I remember everything, but was just far too into it to remember any exact tracks. Hehhe...wasteedd (note: DRUNK)...
Fergie
Then Fergie came on and just blew us away all to hell. Was praying he'd play some kickass techno, and he did. Was a tad worried he'd play hard house since he played HH here in SF just last month, but considering it was a massive and JJ was playing some pretty heavy stuff, HH would have put everyone to sleep...and I'm sure Fergie knew that. When Fergie came on, I was like, "WTF, that's not him!!!! Fergie doesn't have hair!" ... then I was reminded by a friend at Go Ventures that ... well ... he grew some. Heheh, I was worried while on the floor for a bit.
Reza
For those that left when Reza came on, he actually was boring. To go from the fast techno that Fergie was playing to the slower stuff Reza was playing (and not nearly the same great track selection), we totally lost the vibe ... and went to the other room....just to find that the music in there was basically pure SF House and then made our way back to Reza. From there, the sound system ed up and all sound was lost. We just decided to go. We really wanted to stay, but the vibe was just killed. No chance of getting it back. Outta there.
Heard they got the sound going again just for it to cut out again later on.
Reza was a great closer for Monster Massive since the DJ before him there, Benny Benassi(the dude who made the stupid ass track "Satisfaction"), was sucking ass.....but for TAO, he was just *yawwwwnnn* ... I know it's his show, but keeping the vibe is much more important than him....should have sucked it up and booked someone kickin to close it out.
The Go Ventures peeps are a bunch of cool people. Totally down to earth and just out there to have a great time. Had dinner with a few of them the following day and heard some great stories. :p

| I got there at 10PM, I know for sure cuz that's when the TA Socal people were supposed to meet me. Doran was spinning, I know what he looks like from the flyers, bald guy with sorta fat cheeks, unlike JooF who has a more chiseled look. Anyhoo, maybe you meant to say that he spun from 9-10? |

| I hope you're joking about Benny Benassi. He totally surpassed all expectations anyone had for him. As soon as he spun his "Illusion," all bets were off, he truly was a sick ass headliner. I was expecting him to throw a dorky set cuz of his reputation for Satisfaction, but no, he was illmatic. As far as JooF goes, I want to see a picture of him at TAO to be convinced, because I was paying good attention the whole. And the Judge, the DJ none of us can miss...if you guys went to Monster 02, you'd understand why I say I wasn't 100% impressed at TAO. |

| Benny Benassi had the worst set at MM imo. After Roger Sanchez blew everyone away then came benassi and killed everyones roll. his set really killed my high so i left and went to the ouside and hip hop rooms. |

| From what I hear, sounds like TAO had the best response out of the 3 major events that night. I hear that giant ed up hard on security. As far as Digweed goes, I havent heard much about him except that he was good. As for me, I brought down the new year at a club in San Bernardino. I played primetime from 11:45 to 1:30am!!!! Kick ass if you ask me!!! I had a good time! |

Yea...TAO was a blast! I got there a little before 8pm and stayed until around 3am. That was a great introduction to the LA scene for me; it was the first show I've seen west of Chicago. The outside stage was visited twice through the night, but I couldn't stay out there very long because my group of friends didn't really like it. My favorite was deffinitely the Judge, his set blew the place apart which was great. Personally, I was completely worn out by the end of his set and resorted to relaxing up in the seats and watching Fergie. I was also confused on who exactly was spinning the whole time when OO was supposed to be, but whoever did it, did it well. I was very happy with the night. Another highlight was the Infected Mushroom World Tour sign I found on a tree after I left....I'm going to Toronto to party with IM, and the poster will be a great apartment filler! Happy New Years, and g'bye.
Just a suggestion for the promoters for next year; the VIP area was overrated greatly and remains my only complaint. For $75, I thought the vodka bar would be a little more accessible during the show, but it took about a half hour to get a drink. Also, I never got my free t-shirt or whatever the gift was supposed to be. I don't know if I will be able to make it to another one of these TAOs, but I would reccomend some improvement in this department. |

I heard giant got ed up too. My friend went to that and didnt get in for the count down, missed crystal method and only saw 10 minutes of oakenfold. He said it took 3 hrs to get in will call becasue tehy onyl had 1 cc machine. Thats edup. I saw digweed. Got there at liek 930 and took like 5 minutes to get in the will call. Debo was spinning. He was pretty good. Digweed took the house though. 11:55 came on, rocked us into the new year. Really good and energetic set. I was expecting something like his sets from kiss 100 but it was really in good, i put up a thread about wat i recognized from debo and digweed playing. Also this one asian dj in the smoking room was playing some good stuff |

I got there near 10 and I am pretty sure J00F came on just a little after that. In fact, I am checking the TAO website and it now says his gig time was from 10pm - 11:30pm and not the 9pm - 11pm as the site originally stated(and Doran's set was 9pm - 10pm), which makes since...because Judge Jules did come on at around 11:30pm. I got to meet J00F last month when he played here in SF (although I didn't stay long because of an emergency) and it was the same dude. :p
Anyhow, as I said, I even confirmed this with someone at GoVentures...and without mentioning any times or anything, I was told he played the times that I pretty much remember him playing (although I was told he played from 10pm - 11pm, not until 11:30pm).

Yeah, Fleming shaves his head....but so does Doran. Doran has a chubbier face. |
