A large majority of "top" UK DJs haven't really updated their style in a few years. They're not really progressing and moving their sounds forward at all. "Hard Dance" is just a term created to give cheesy Hard House DJs more credibility as they start to jump on the Hard Trance bandwagon now that Hard House is dead. And always remember, FASTER isn't harder, HARDER is harder. :D:D:D

one other thing from my expierences Mark EG and M-zone are big nobodies in the UK. Mark EG played at some crap ass clubs around leeds once. It was all 15 year old pill freaks and old timers.

Bit too wierd even for me and I like wierd environments. Same goes for M-zone he played at some wack places as well over there.

Makes you wonder if perhaps our beliefs of them being popular over there are based upon actual fact or an over inflated sense of importance created by destiny back some 4 years ago. Jon the dentist was also a big no one. I thought everybody would of heard of him. Turns out that outside cardiff he is a nobody. I never saw him at any of the big nights out there. Same for
Chris C
madame Zu
orange peel

I could be totally wrong on this but this is just what i saw from my own expierences. But hard house is really popular over there and I saw chris C playing at the at this really dodgy place. Also never saw him at any of the big hardhouse nights out there.

Same for Mark EG and M-zone.
I could be wrong though

There's a good radio station in Australia called Nova (96.9) that has alot of good sets combining trance and hard dance. That station is mostly pop music but check out when they have a real dj on. They really seem to be into that style over there, and there's alot of good coming out....

Popularity is often inversely related to originality and therefore, at least in my opinion, quality (see trance, house, hip-hop and pop music in general for proof). :toothless

The DJs you mentioned may not play the huge clubs, but that's often their preference. M-Zone turned down a gig at God's Kitchen a couple of years ago, and he's been instrumental in introducing new talent from Italy and Germany (Trance Generators, Uberdruck, and many others) to the UK scene, both through his DJ sets and a club night he promotes. Mark EG played at Qlimax in Amsterdam (easily one of the most popular clubs in the Netherlands) earlier this year and destroyed the place. The underground is usually at least a step or two ahead of the more commercial clubs.

Don't buy into the hype created by the UK clubbing media too much. They tend to support their own talent almost to a fault. In some ways that's a great thing (I definitely wish our scene was a little more like that) but at times it causes them to be almost xenophobic. The fact is, the UK scene is not what it used to be (the superclubs are dying - just visit the UKTA section of this forum to see proof of that) and a big part of that is because they haven't allowed their sound to progress. This is what happens when a particular style meets with mainstream success. Formulas are found, innovation halts, and people eventually get bored of the sound.
