i think if you just TALK to your children and build trust with them then allow them to make their own decsions you would get better results. Trying to hide something from someone is only going to make them more currious. I was always able to talk about doing drugs and drinking with my dad when i was 14 and he didn't nail my ass to the floor and put cameras in my room. Some people have a really distorted view of how to help others.

I dunno, it seems america has a lot of these nuts. In Aus every Christian I've come accross has been pretty moderate and tolerant of other cultures and religions. I used to have to go to church at school (Anglican school) and even all the priests were pretty cool - not too preachy. I think some aussie archbishop has even written something about other religions to the effect of "I suspect that there may be more than one path to God"... Of course we do have a couple of nutters pushing creationism and searching for Noah's ark but generally they are the exception.

/me agrees.

I go to what would be considered a hardcore catholic school (Even though i'm an athiest, and have been for about 5 years), and it isn't that bad. The priests aren't too preachy, and you can pretty much avoid seeing them full stop if you try. There are even a couple of Buhiddsts who go there.

Yeah our school had quite a few Asian international students from a buddhist background, a few hindus, a couple of jews etc... In our compulsory R.E. classes in earlier years we got taught about other religions and spent the rest of the time getting taught about sex and abstinence etc... the only time we even touched on Christianity was when we learned about its history (reformation etc) and how it influences society. In year 7 the priedt used to read bits of the book that the Exorcist was based on to us. Funnily enough the only time i've met Christians that have sort of freaked me out was at uni - there are some people who only talk about their churches and bible-study groups. But even they're pretty harmless... A friend even got into a drinking contest with a bunch of random theology students.

that link is so scary. As a born/raised roman catholic i used to be more aware of the crazy whackos out there. To the aussi who said "arent all these whackos always in america?" i think u are rgt, there is this vast midwestern christian political force here as well. i wont name names of religions but i think most of you know who they are. Btw i cant fig out who sponsered that rave site? is it a born again christian? In the end the good of people lie within themselves, and to be a hypocritical church-goer is probably the worst of all, but to chastise other wise moral good people for not being "good christians" is just sad. im officailly depressed about the state of this world. :-(

"The biblical evidence is clear. Music was created by God for the purpose of the worship of the One, the True, and the Almighty ( Worthy ) God. Music that is not composed and presented in tune with that purpose cannot be harmless"

"The demons and satan are behind any music, including much religious music"

These passages from that rave website just get me.
However, this one gets me the most.
"RAVES ARE FILLED WITH DEMONIC MUSIC LEADING MASSES IN WORSHIP TO SATAN"

There was a similar site somewhere that said everything was satanic including the star wars flms and all Asian martial arts.

Our religious fanatics are some crazy nutters:

quote:
"I don't know that atheists should be considered citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

-- George Bush

quote:
"I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good...Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a Biblical duty, we are called by God, to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism."

--Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue, The News-Sentinel, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 8-16-93

The craziest ones with the most power are Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell:

quote:

"When I said during my presidential bid that I would only bring Christians and Jews into the government, I hit a firestorm. `What do you mean?' the media challenged me. `You're not going to bring atheists into the government? How dare you maintain that those who believe in the Judeo Christian values are better qualified to govern America than Hindus and Muslims?' My simple answer is, `Yes, they are.'"

--from Pat Robertson's "The New World Order," page 218.

quote:
"[The] feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."
--Pat Robertson, fundraising letter, 1992

On to the most disgusting:

quote:
"I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'"

--Jerry Falwell talking about the Sept. 11th terror attacks

quote:
"Many of those people involved with Adolph Hitler were Satanists, many of them were homosexuals--the two things seem to go together."--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club," 1/21/93

quote:
[On apartheid in South Africa]
"I think 'one man, one vote,' just unrestricted democracy, would not be wise. There needs to be some kind of protection for the minority which the white people represent now, a minority, and they need and have a right to demand a protection of their rights."
--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club," 3/18/92

quote:
"I know this is painful for the ladies to hear, but if you get married, you have accepted the headship of a man, your husband. Christ is the head of the household and the husband is the head of the wife, and that's the way it is, period."
--Pat Robertson, newsletter as quoted by Federal News Service, Sept. 11, 1992

Proof that Pat is nuts:

quote:
[On Gay Day at Disney World]
"I would warn Orlando that you're right in the way of some serious hurricanes and I don't think I'd be waving those flags in God's face if I were you, This is not a message of hate; this is a message of redemption. But a condition like this will bring about the destruction of your nation. It'll bring about terrorist bombs; it'll bring earthquakes, tornadoes and possibly a meteor."
--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club" June 6, 1998

I have no problem with religion, but don't try to impose your ideology on ME with my own tax dollars!

Hmmm.. Gotta love all those fanatics :D

quote:

[...] the industry is changing the term "Invincibility mode" to "God mode". I think that this is another way Satan wants people to think that they are gods, when they are really not (Genesis 3:5). But there is only one God (Mark 12:32).
