Proposal #4: TOTA Gallery
View this Thread in Original format

This I have not yet discussed with Swamper, yet. But I think it is in order. We always have event pictures and there is no clean and organized way of getting this picture on TOTA.

We are in definite need of a picture gallery, so if you are for one let it be known in here!

swamper already knows my view on this one....RIGHT SWAMPY??

Presently, the vast majority of images taken at most of the events that are well attented by TOTA's have been hosted on Trance365.com (operated by Maxtuh), Travelninja.com (operated by drgoodvibe) and djeso.com (operated by djeso).

I have 2 suggestions in this regard:

Either:

1. Have Swamper install some kind of photo album plugin for the site to allow each TA the ability to submit their photos to one address and then to have all the images displayed in one LARGE album per event. This would allow all the users to consolidate their images as well as a place to have them hosted without charge.

OR:

2. Allow users to have their images hosted privately as they are now. With the exception that a sticky thread be created listing all the events (in chronological order, must like the Masterlist is) or perhaps even combined with the Masterlist. Each event could include hyperlinks beside them directly to the various user hosted albums so that the sites for all the images can be easily found by members.

Presently, both drgoodvibe, maxtuh, and djeso are providing free image hosting services on their respective servers.

just to add to that...

instead of the individual site hosting logo watermarks, the photographers should put the TA logo...(imo)

i had tried it out with pics from freedom (if anyone remembers)

and to watermark with a TA logo is as easy as A-B-C since tehres batch conversion software to do several hundreds at a time

I don't think you're going to be able to force people to watermark their images with a TA logo. There are people out there who are not technically adept enough to do this given the fact that there's batch software out there that will do it for you. Moreoever, I don't think any message forum requires its users to watermark their photos in order to have them posted online.

This process could infact inhibit and discourage people from posting their pictures.

Let's just try and keep things simple (imho).

well if u really htink about it...its only nathalie, Beh and I that take pics that end up being posted on TA..now i have no problem with putting th elogo on, i dont think Nathalie would mind as well.
im not saying get rid of the host site's logo but in addition to it, they can put the TA logo..

Wells, it's fine if you do, I just don't think it should be made a requirement. There are always going to be random people coming through the site interested in sharing their event pics who might want to post them online. Moreover, if we impose this rule, someone would have to manually screen all the threads ensuring that it's being adhered too. It has nothing to do with not wanting to promote the site, I just don't think it's worth all time and effort trying to enforce it. Keep it optional, not mandatory.

I think there is a very clean and organized photo gallery system, on my site as well as trance365.com as well as Djeso's site. Now if we're talking about having one central location then that's a different story.

I'm sure nat would opt to host her pics on TA, but myself, and i'm sure RyanParks as well (since both of us have our own websites) wouldnt be hosting our pics on the TOTA gallery. It'd be awsome for all the rest of the people though i'm sure.

The watermark issue, I highly doubt anyone would take the time to watermark each of there pictures. p.S RyanParks does each pic individually in Photoshop (i know cuzz I asked ;)) If i were some average guy I wouldnt bother taking the time to either get software that does it automatically OR do each pic individually.
EDIT -- if I were taking pics and hosting them on my own site, I shant be putting the TA logo on any of the pics, I don't really see any point in that unless maybe its a TA invasion party...

I think a TOTA gallery is a great idea nonetheless..

meh. this idea is so-so.

Too much work for now.

In the visiting Toronto thread, add links to the picture galleries so visitors can check them out.

I think those are both really good suggestions. In either case, people can choose if/how they want their images to be shared with the public. Pretty much, like Emery said, those with their own servers can keep their stuff on there and provide links to it within threads, and others without them can use this as an opportunity to display their pics from various events. If it can be made into a win-win situation, that would be optimal. :)

You see, one of the problems I have with browsing the galleries on other sites is that you are forced to sign up as a member. I always forget my password and I always end up having to get my password emailed to me just to look at a few picks.

I would be against having to have the pictures watermarked as it is not necessary. I am for a gallery since we all the pictures end up on this site anyhow. Maybe there can be a way to have link in the TOTA gallery to all the off site galleries or something along those lines?

Yeah, I see your point but the only one we have to log on to was trance365 and that is not really going anywhere.

But yes, it would be cool but it would take a lot of work.

This could be a side project for someone.
