Lets all pray that there are no more victims of this terrible event.
For those of you who dont' know, the Uptown theatre at Yonge and Bloor is currently under demolition has collapsed on a nearby school. 17 people have been rescued and one person has been confirmed dead. Lets hope that everybody has been rescued and that there are no more fatalities |

i was there when it happened. about 20 meters away maybe. was actually watching them demolish the upper girters (sp?) with a large crane. it was quite a sight actually because you could see all of the seats in the the theatre while they were doing it. i was admiring the sight of a half a theatre standing there in the morning light. all of the sudden the whole thing crumbles from the top down. then there was a massive cloud of white/yellowish dust that blanketed that whole street (i dont know what its called but it runs between bloor and charles just west of yonge, between yonge and bay). i ran into manulife until the smoke settled (maybe 3-4 min). then went outside. the news is reporting it took the cops and ambulances 1 minute to respond, it was actually 5 which is too long for a building collapse right smack down in the middle of the ing city. i saw no cop or ambulance there for at least 5 min. ran home to get my camera, but by the time i went back a little later they had sealed off the street and no press could get a good shot. i got a few from inside a building and form across bloor street, but damn i wish i had my cam when it happened. anyways, scary seeing ppl running from a huge cloud of dust, kind of reminded me of u kno what.
im pretty sure it was the demolition company's fault. Priestly Demolition I think. I have no clue why they were bringing down the support structure. |

| So wait a second, was it demolished with small explosives - or did it actually collapse due to age? |

It collapsed unexpectedly while they were wrecking it with huge cranes. |
