Trance dead in the water

Face it: the genre is simply drifting with no real artistic innovation. It's the same cookie-cutter sound rampantly dominating production. Nothing distinctive. I've been digging into pre-98 production because there isn't enough good new work to keep my addiction satisfied, er, I mean, as much good work as there used to be. To my surprise, I've found many older productions exceeding today's. This is not doom and gloom; trance has been declining since 2001, and people who say it isn't are lying to themselves or ignoring what trance used to be. I remember people prophesizing that Gabriel & Dresden would be the saviours, but the actual results have been marginal, particularly with the plethora of radio remixes.
I've heard nothing of particular note, with rare exception, in the last six months. Six months!
Can't someone do a Matt Darey, work his or her ass off and help the genre back on its feet? Oh, who am I kidding. This is part of a cycle, irreversible by talent. Inevitably there will be upswing, but no time soon, I think.
PvD has gone downhill. The "second coming" of Matt Darey fizzled. BT has moved away into other artistic directions. Ferry's new sound isn't catching (even though I think it has promise). Lange and Armin are recycling. Tiesto is in a production hibernation (though his return may change things). Sasha almost never produces. ASOT is a wasteland.
Do I feel alone? Am I just jaded?
If not, what to do now? What promising artists do you think are out there in this desert? |

You need to dig deeper.
There are still new and innovating tracks out there - they're the ones that nobody ever mentions.
Edit:
Besides, in trance world things seem to move a bit too fast for their own good. A tune that was released 2 months ago is considered old. I think it is time for labels to slow down the massive release speed and focus on quality instead of quantity. |

That doesn't help me much. I've been trying to find artists and labels I like, but they're not surfacing.

Even Marco has gone downhill. His remixes of Connected and 3rd Earth have been relatively poor. C:\del*.mp3 and Solarize really don't compare to Godd or In Charge.
I still think him and Bates, and tech-trance in general, are the only promise, but the revolution isn't happening. Instead I see these artists slipping off the radar. |

I'm starting to get bored of the "cookie cutter" trance thing (by the way that word really gets on my ) and it does need some innovation before everyone gets really bored
And with ASOT, I personally have got bored of it, because I'm not really much of a fan of Armin as a DJ anymore. |

| thats a pretty bold statement to make and i think this thread is going to be filled with people who disagree but to each their own. ill agree somewhat, but for the most part its been a good year. i think you should wait for some of the major parties to start happening coming up in the next few months and i think some bomb tunes will start to surface. dumonde has been in studio all year, they've just been silent. wait for the dumonde remix of symsonic. its hard for me to think of things 6 months back being released because as someone mentioned tunes are in and out so fast. i disagree about ferry. rock your body rock was a big hit despite what i or you think of it. what about right of way, and have you heard 'sweet sorrow'? |

| Hence why, I've diversified my music habits. I went into breaks, tech-house and chill out. I still love trance more than anything else but I think people need to branch out. |

agreed. the cookie-cutter is getting way too boring. i'd rather listen to the milkshake song than most of the stuff armin puts out on ASOT . i'm not looking for flames, i really do think that artistic and production-wise Neptunes-style hip pop is way more innovative. the only interesting trance "brainwashed me" has found to be any interesting nowadays is most of the stuff that can be considered trance in Tiesto and Sasha sets. i can still have mad fun if i see someone like PvD live, but it's not the same. i'd rather listen to Holden, Zabiela, Freeland etc.
