...people on this forum who are pro-Palestinian tend to admit Arafat's and other Arab figures' crimes (and openly call for them being brought to justice) but Pro-Israeli parties tend to fend off any Sharon and U.S. policy bashing.
Interesting psych I have also noticed in real life as well. Although I have quite a few Jewish friends more in tune with reality than most people.
Maybe because of an anonymous forum some TAs are younger than we may think and are thus clouded by jinguistic emotions and naeivity.
Either way - I hope this thread doesnt turn into another long-winded crock of flaming ... |

Pfft, I dislike both of them as well, but I would not say that of Arafat. The only thing he's defending is himself and his corrupt institution.
Not getting drawn into this discussion once the hardliners begin  |

I don't think that's true. Some pro-Palestinians admit this, just as some pro-Israelis admit that Sharon is a whacko.
All generalizations are false. :p |

| I think both sides are at fault as well, the blame doesn't just lie with one particular party. |

Not getting drawn into this discussion once the hardliners begin  | he is the leader of the palestinian people, thus the idea of him protecting them. is he doing the best job of it? probably not, but in my opinion, sharon isnt doing superb job either. |

Yes but there is a difference in the motivations of the two men ... Sharon interests and actions lie in what is best for his people. He personally has nothing to gain from his actions, misguided or not, other than what he believes will be for the betterment of his people. Arafat's actions however are more self-motivated as evidenced by his continual consolidation of power, regardless of the effect that has on his people, and the continual propogation of his corrupt administration (and his own personal corruption in theft from NGO groups) which has a definitive negative impact on the Palestinian people. So unless Arafat believes that by making himself richer he somehow makes the Palestinians richer, I would make that distinction. |

True, we don't really know how corrupt sharon is if at all. But I'm somewhat doubtful that he is formulating Israeli foreign policy on the basis of his personal gain :) |
