I love electronic music, from trance to techno to even some DnB. I love going out once in a while to places where they play such music. But lately ive been getting pissed off.

The other night at Marco V some guacamolee girl goes to some guy, "Oh this DJ sucks", the guy goes, "Who is he? ive never seen him here before..." (thats because hes from halfway across the world u dumbass (no offence but shouldnt you be at a z103.5 party or something??)

And everytime i go to Guv i always here atleast one person say, "Oh too many asians here...boo hoo hoo". Now im not Asian, but i think they have every right to be there, no? And do these people realize how big the scene is in Japan, China?? Ofcourse some may just come to party and not give two craps about the music...but i think the same goes for most white people there too.

And the junkies...oh the junkies...dont make me start on them..."Do u want E?"..."R u selling E?" No u drugggy im trying to enjoy the music!

My Solution: The electronic music lovers go to a smaller room with Mark Oliver (like the Drink or Orange room)...dont tell anyone and replace MO in the main room with some fruit like Tony Monaco...they wouldnt know the difference, if they did, they probably couldnt care less. I know theres still alot of people who are all about the music that come there, but r there n e other venues that play trance or techno that are equally as good? (ive been to system but for a place that calls itself System Soundbar i dont think the sound system was all that...Viva's website never has n e updates...what is there schedule like??

(by the way i hear z103.5 starting playing some PVD tracks.... thats reason enough to call a protest...we dont need z103.5 bastardizing PVD or n e other producer)

What do u guys think about the scene here, specifically the Guv?

We can bitch and complain all we want but the scene isn't going to change. sufee_b, what you'll come to realize is that when you party with TAs all this doesn't really matter because you are surrounded by friends who are there for the same reasons you are. Please don't knock Systems bcuz that's where we have most of our parties. The 'system' in a club doesn't make the club. Its a lot more than that. I suggest you come to Systems this friday for our TA XMAS party and see for yourself.

We've been over this issue countless times.

Here's one thread about it:

the scene is very good here.

the crowd at guv has greatly improved over the last year or so.

Mark Oliver will never, and should never, be moved from the mainroom. Do you have any idea how long he's played there and how much of a following he has? And believe me, A LOT of the people that go to Guv would notice the difference between Tony Monaco and Mark Oliver.

How long have you been partying for?

i dunno... i'm gonna hold my opinnion on this one till i see more posts. i kinda have mixed feelings about this topic as well. glad u started it.

aaah what the hell. Might as well. All i can say is if it wasn't for the druggies, the ginos, the posers, the guys and girls who go there to pick up meat, the party can't take place. It isn't cheap to get a big name DJ in. It isn't cheap to run places like the guv. As for the Asians, they represent a big part in our culture. I respect them more and more cuz some of them are hardcore suporters to the scene.

just remember: u can't have ur good if u don't have ur bad. As for z103.5, i would blame PVD. He is the one who released the radio edits to start with. He even said he wanted Nothing but you to be commercial. Same as Time of Our Lives. The reason behind this is because he wants to break trance through the underground world in North America just like it did a few years ago in Europe. Even though in europe, the radio exposure is not at peak as top 40 and hiphop, it is still getting some exposure. We all gotta start somewhere and i don't think we should complain when z103.5 butchers a track like that. If it gets ppl's attn to what trance is, then so be it.

edit:

Trance and the EDM scene isn't getting anywhere right now. It used to be a whole lot better in the previous years. Just check out the older parties with 15 000+ and 25 000+. 2004 surely better be a pretty damn good year for the scene here in Toronto as this year was pretty solid.

check out the master list and see the kinda tallent we saw over the course of 2003.

It's interesting how your experience is, notably about the drugs and such. I myself have never, and don't plan on doing any chems, but am fairly deep in the scene. I see it around and such ofcourse, but to be honest i've never been bothered by it, though some people do ask me if i'm selling any:toothless. Just take it in stride and don't let it bother you, trust me your not the only person whose there just for the music!

Stereotypes about the types of people that accumulate in clubs will always be there, like people thinking of VIVA being "too asian" but hey if your there for the music, who cares what people think. The whole ignorance factor of people not knowing/not caring about the DJs playing and whatnot is common in all things. Just think about how many people really know all the details about what's going on in Iraq? They know its happening, they know its there, they know they can get more information about it, but don't bother. It happens with all things, so this shouldnt be a huge surprise.

Anyways you have some fairly valid points, just remember to party with an open mind and an open heart -- cuzz that's the whole point!:thepirate

Well, I didn't mean it in a bad way Tordan ;)

I'm not trying to bring up the issue of "he's a n00b, thus his point doesn't count" or "he doesn't know what he's talking about"

What I'm saying is that when I was new to the partying scene in T.dot, I remember saying many of the same things (and not just me, others on TA as well). But it seems that as time went on, the scene has improved a whole lot. My first time at Guv was horrible. But as 2002 came to a close, it got better and better. Also, the whole partying with TA's has a lot to do with it, but I have noticed an improvement at Guv over the past year in terms of crowd and so on.

If he hasn't been partying long, then I could kinda see where he's coming from on all this.

Sure is, and I definately do not have a problem with it. Lots of people go into a party not knowing who's playing and just wanna have fun. And thats all cool. I'm not expecting every single person to know who the DJ is, even if they are there for the music.

Im obviously joking about moving MO... my point was that alot of people there at Guv on Sat. wouldnt notice or even care if MO moved, which i think is pathetic...and about knocking System, i wanst knocking it...its got 40k watts, etc, etc. iall i meant was that i think i expected too much going in from the name of the place... i personally think something about Viva is awesome...i was expecting system to be close to that

System is just much more intimate, there's just something sexy about that place to be honest.. besides when I was hanging out there yesterday, I couldnt help but feel like the place felt like home! hah.

yeah.. I know. Its like puberty. We all go through it. Yes, I have noticed a change in the crowd as well. They seem friendlier than before. But the question is... does it seem that way because I'm now a familiar face and ppl smile and say hi more often or is it a change in attitude of everyone?
