soundbar events are always on weeknights, at least thats what ive seen. i dunno why they do that, even clubs. thats the worst time to brin ppl in, i hate not being able to see a fav dj when its on a weeknight... screws us over |

they bring in DJs on friday nights as well. i think the reason they do more weeknight events is because they don't want to compete with Spundae saturdays @ Vision, and weeknights are cheaper for booking DJs - hence making ticket prices for YOU lower. they're not "screwing" anyone over. |

theyre screwing me and everyone else who works during the week over. ARGH!!!! wish soundbar would just do more weekend events, at least bring in the big djs on fri's and sat's so we have a chance to come up and see them... spundae makes enuff $$ as it is |

you should be happy enough to have promoters and clubs who bring big DJs into the city.
i don't know what you're complaining about, in the next several weeks, Soundbar has U.N.K.L.E., Steve Lawler, Dave Ralph, Marco Carola, and Deep Dish all on friday nights. |

| its pretty rare that i find a dj event on a weeknight worth staying out later for. i think theres only a handful of weeknights that i've gone to at sound-bar: sasha, seb, diggers is it i think. howells was also a thursday event, but was postponed. the rest have been on friday. its pretty rare so i wont complain. i think its cool that none of the events compete with each other. |

this is just my basic understanding of the industry:
promoters bring in the dj's and have to convince a club owner to let them have a night at the club. all promoters are somewhat at the mercy of the club owner - they have to demonstrate to the club owner that they can bring the people in. the promoters and club owners have to work together - these relationships fall apart all the time for various reasons. PURE used to do thursday nights at transit, but then the owners of transit basically kicked them out (at least thats what i heard).
then there is the booking of the dj - there are only so many friday and saturday nights available. PURE has friday nights at sound bar, but possibly when oakie is touring there were no friday nights that PURE hadn't already booked a dj, so PURE booked oakie when he was available. i'm sure that PURE or any other promoter is not trying to screw anyone over - clearly, PURE would make more money if they could have booked oakie on a friday or saturday night, but it wasn't possible.
additionally, the dj and his/her booking agent decide what cities to go to - so if for some reason oakie didn't like chicago, he wouldn't have to come here. i know that there are dj's that haven't come to chicago - not because of the promoter or the clubs etc. - but because they just don't want to come to the windy city for whatever reason. so - as you can see - there are many parties involved when it comes to booking dj's and club events.
one more point - i assure you that that you don't go into this business to make money - i think that the majority of shows do not make money for spundae or the other promoters. most shows are money losers from what i have heard. |
