This is huge news.

Wow, they must have offered him one of alot of money.

It's bad because one of the major players in the scene is gone, but I think it will be a change for the better.

We need a change in Toronto, and the closing of the Guvernment might bring about that change. The Guvernment has been around for too long, and quite frankly, besides their special events, their regular nights leave alot to be desired.

Exit: Guvernment Enter: Boa Redux

Besides, who isn't to say that Charles wouldn't have some sort of 'finger in the pie' with Boa anyways :D

thats true maybe he may open up another superclub, right central downtown(from the makers of Guvernment,Aka Warehouse, Aka RPM)
:D:D

but i think he would even make more money if he did that central toronto downtown., just imagine the hip hop crowd wooing to streets with the only club with trance on sat nights!!?

i wont lose sleep over it
infinity HiGH
I refuse to believe this till it's actually closed.

:-\ :(

And building Condo's there wouldn't make sense; it doens't look like a very desireable location, with factories surrounding the whole area. I really hope this isn't true; I hope that Guv has a new owner, but it still stays open.

There's condos what, maybe 3 min drive down the street. It's not like it's in the middle on no mans land. If they build a SMALL condo with just 100 units X 300K each. You do the math. It's a pretty good investment. I think you'd be surprised how much the guv makes. I bet you it's not 1/10 what we'd think. If it really was raking in the cash as much as we think no one in their right mind would sell it.
torontotrance
everyone has their price, I don't think anything is not for sale but figure they offer him say 12 million bucks for the entire complex and the land. You pay taxes on that 12 million bucks and it maybe becomes 7.5 million. I figure the guv is making at least 250K profit a year (that's bare minimum). Let's say 500K to 900K, does the investment look that great?. I think charles K loves the guv and koolhaus complex (it has made him pretty stinking rich imo). I'm sure one day, he may sell it but not now, when you are bringing in huge events rammed to capacity.
Pettiscool
i dont think he would sell guvy, hell , its making money, and its not like the property is going to lose value, you can keep making big money off it and then sell it when it becomes unprofitable

Well I don't usually feed into rumours cuz I'm a firm believer in "telling one's own story", but this was too juicy!
My source heard from someone who works at Distrikt that Guv was sold for 36 million and is going to be re-opened as a four level club called Circus.

torontotrance
lol.....don't believe that

that's how rumors start...someone says something...someone decides it's truth and passes it on. 36 million is a ton of dough, think of all the money that needs to be put into the new club and then to make the money back, likely rumor.

My question, if it was sold, why they keep booking deejays

TTA :disbelief

What a wicked name for a club.

If Guv was sold though, it wasn't by Charles....he doesn't own the club itself.
