first and foremost...
to all pvd flammers, stay the outta this thread, no one cares about your opinions anyway, unless for once you have something constructive to share. i want pvd fans to reply.
alright. i've been listening to some older pvd sets all night, some from 99 and even some from just last year, and each set still had that originality i love pvd for. in every set there was atleast those couple of songs that i'd never heard him play before, or whatever. i loved it when pvd started his sets with something that wasnt his mainstream stuff and then mixed into the tunes that made us all die over and over again. his older sets were all very different from one another, and now it seems that all he's doing is playing the same over and over again in a different order.
in the past, every pvd set was a different journey for me. and now, its all the in same. esp his latest essential mix. man that pissed me off. NOTHING special about it at all. you'd think he would try and bust something for an essential mix, but i guess its not essential enough for him now.
i dunno where this post is going, but i sure as hell hope what happened to oakenfold doesnt happen with pvd. i dont want to lose my god. although, i really am wondering if he's still my favorite dj. maybe of all time still, but his recent CRAP just isnt doing it for me much anymore. maybe he needs to take a break from touring 24/7 and find some new records to play. either that, or i hope his record box and cd-r case get stolen. force him to play something different damn it.
i dunno, what are your thoughts on pvd's recent "boring" quality? |

Perhaps you are fogetting that the EM was a Studio set and not a live set. What exactly were you expecting? Check out his last Studio EM from a few years back. You'll probably find that just as boring. I'm getting a bit tired of saying this over and over now, but the only reason people are noticing that PvD's sets are the same is because he is getting his sets broadcasted much much more than any other DJ.
And this similar playlist we are noticing has always been the case for any DJ you look at. They play the same playlist for a while, then move onto another. It's not just PvD that is guilty of doing this. And this is not the only year its happened. Check out the year 2000. He raped beta blocker, pumped up, vdm, alibi, born slippy, etc. for months at a time. In 2001 he raped TPOD tracks for half a year. Now this year he has stuck to a few certain playlists including lots of Reflections tracks (he is on an album tour lets not forget,) and now is moving onto the next. I could give this sort of analysis for any other DJ to.
If you want proof he has still got it then head on over to the tl forum and check out his Casino Berlin set. Nuff said.

Wot he said. Personally I found his EM to have a lot of new tunes I have never heard before, so I honestly can't see what ppl are complaning about :conf: |

i'd like to agree with you mikey, because you make some good points, but i'm still of the opinion that in the old days pvd was able to vary his sets (studio or not) a lot more than he does now. and i find that disappointing. i mean, i know its hard for a dj like him, whos traveling none stop, playing a show nearly every night, but still.
and yeah, that casino tracklist looks quite amazing, i saw it before i posted this too. but i dunno, maybe its just because i havent seen paul live in over 6 months. :( maybe i'm lacking the atmosphere and energy |

dont get me wrong, i'm not complaning, just discussing. i love pvd, and always will. sorry if it sounded like complaning, thats not what i meant at all.
edit: LOL, just reread the original post, wow, did sound like complaning, but yeah, not what i meant :toothless |

| When I saw PvD at GC he blew me away. But I agree he does play similar sets, but they are good tunes, shame he uses Final Scratch rather than vinyl and CDs. His new album is good, ‘Crush’, ’Time of our lives’, ‘Nothing But You’ and ‘Connected’, but some crappy tunes on there that shouldn’t be. |

i didnt look down on his album in anyway, yeah some of the tracks didnt quite appeal to me, but that was paul testing himself, expanding as an artist, and i respect that. he did what he wanted to do. he didnt use some formula to make every track on his album, and i think if anything, the album let him grow as an artist.
and everytime i've seen paul he's blown me away like no other dj has even come close to! :) ...well, except madam breaks, but i've never seen her live |

expect some chnages as the new year rolls around. If it doesn't, i'll eventually loose respect for the guy.
u can't go around a spinning the same tunes and expect to be #1 for it. Right now he's #2 in the mixmag? i think it's a fabricated list based on nothing really important. It's just a title. It's unfortunate that some DJs forget about that and loose their essence.
IF PVD doesn't change in the very near future, i would also have to let him go as a fav. DJ. |

hey flo...
i feel the same way. paul's sets used to really take me somewhere. i also revisted old sets and there is a quality, a -something- that just isn't there anymore.
it seems that paul is playing a lot of anthems and crowd pleasers, hands in the air tracks. that's more tiesto and armin's style, and why i stopped listening to them.
i listen to a LOT of paul's sets, so i expect to be able to id anything he throws out there other than brand spanking new tracks. that doesn't bother me, but it's the lack of that special something that does.
i was really disappointed with his set at roxy 11/14. there were some great moments, but i felt a complete lack of flow and purpose. i'm not writing paul off yet, but am going to give it a break for a while and re-evaluate in 2004.
i hope he hasn't lost it. |
