| Well I'm using a Dell laptop one of the old 8000's they have. The big question is what are you going to use the laptop for? If its for games and lan-partys don't get a laptop, I would go and get a small computer, like a shuttle or the frag box. If you are using it for school, work, or note taking get a laptop. If you do get a laptop dont buy a HP/Compaq, Gateway, or Sony from my experience they have horrible support. I use to do tech support at my school where students had laptops and all of those companies either had shotty parts or when ever you needed to send in your laptop it would take weeks or even months for them to get the box they needed to ship there laptop. I would recommend Dell, Toshiba, and Fujitsu in that order. Oh and if you do buy a laptop always spring for the extra warranty laptops have a good habit of breaking down, especially the screens. |

Do you really need a laptop? Do you have to haul your pc from school to home every week, do you have a job that requires you to have a computer with you 24/7? If no then dont buy a laptop. Most people i know bought it just so they can play games anywhere and thats a bad investment especialy since you cant upgrade laptops.
For work you dont need the most powerful one out there. I have a Compaq Evo N1005v. Its not the fastest but it works for me, i was looking for a cheaper one actualy becouse i only needed to run office but i got a good offer on this one and bought it. |

Agreed. A P4 3.2GHz alone is like $400. Unless all that stuff you got was 'hot', I don't believe it. |

Yep. I'm the one that made the point. *bleh* Well, on this website is where that P4 3.2 ranges about $400 ($413 today, the prices change very often.)

By the way, I bought virtually all my parts there, they have good prices. And I will say this: even after getting everything there, it did NOT come cheap. I'd say around $1400, $1500. |

| laptops are great carry around music and video servers. If you have setups where you need to transport that stuff and then youll be hooking it into a stereo system or TV they are handy, but other than that (i have 3 latops havent used them in literally years) desktops are da bomb for upgrading, maintaining, and ease of use. |
