why do you say that? boa is obviously staying away from the kitschy "superclub" type feel and are aiming for a specific crowd with that underground feel which the average clubber wouldn't find appealing... i can't imagine hearing any other genre at the club other than prog, everything else would seem so out of place, meh... |

The club has the opportunity to appeal to a number of different crowds in the city - all of which are excited at the possibility of a BIG club offering up some serious DJs. I think you are an anomaly in the sense that you go hear strictly prog DJs...most people I know, including myself, go to hear a variety of DJs. It'd be nice if the club appealed to this market, which I think is bigger than the prog-only market.
A lot of people will be disappointed if the club doesn't try to diversify its line up. |

I think the club will do just fine headlining prog DJ's on a regular basis. To tell you the truth the prog DJ's these days spin more of a variety based set anyways.
There are a list of DJ's lining up to play Stereo and much like Stereo, Boa's owners are Progressive based promoters and DJ's. I think if the club starts bringing techno, breaks, and DnB Dj's it will lose some of the potential loyalty I know it is looking for from the dedicated Progressive Heads.
When you start bringing in Dj's of all genres it is hard to build steady clientel and even harder to create a "Vibe" that is going to be there night in, night out. Our other clubs (System and Guv) have no vibe at all, just a bunch of people out to get high, some there to dance, listen to music, or socialize. I hope Boa sticks to their guns and create a club with a vibe to be revialed by the other clubs around the world (Former Slinky, Cream, Pacha etc) that are so famous for the vibe and dedication to the music that the DJ's play out there.
Don't get me wrong I am still a fan of other genres (Techno included) but I really hope "they" will stick to the System and Guv venues and leave this for the mature progressive music lover as I know there are enough in Toronto to keep this going. |

| i understand what u r saying about guvernment, that most people go to get high......thats even more true for comfort zone with some exceptions ...but how can u say that about system....i find that the majority of the people that go to system ..go for the music..system has a really good and cool crowd too |

Half of the crowd are there cause it is the cool thing to do...... not the music IMO. Sure you still have the people that go for the music but it still lacks vibe and that is what I hope Boa will bring.
I could be wrong but I am sure there are others out there who feel the same way. System on Friday's don't compare to what it was 3 years ago. |

But the point of Breathe Fridays was to do the same thing - but you're saying that failed. Why is Boa different?
No one has tried to open a club that is even remotely like Aria in this city, so you can't say it won't work. The crowd and the vibe at Aria is consistent and GOOD - but the vibe at clubs like Guv and System Fridays (where it's the same sound week in and week out...IMO of course) SUCKS, according to you.
This city needs a change, not another club competing for the same prog crowd. The formula can only work for so many clubs... |

I'd have to disagree with you on this one Sarah. I think they'll probebly stick to the Progressive/House crowd and do just fine. And if you were there on Saturday, you wouldve agreed with me that this wasnt the "same ol prog crowd" like you'd think this club would attract. Sure, i recognized some familiar faces....but overall the vibe was unlike any club id experienced in a long LONG time. And i agree with Matt that if you bring in wide range of genres they will not establish a regular clientele and it'll end up just being a bunch of sketch bags like there are at The Guvernment. I also think that the $30 admission is a lil steap for those regulars at the The Guv who are just looking for a $10 quick fix of heavy bass and lazers. |

You can attribute some of the vibe to the excitement of a new club, for sure. That will wear off. If it's going to be the same crowd week after week as you suggest it will, the vibe will go the way of Breathe Fridays and Spin saturdays...which, in your opinion, sucks!
Many clubs around the world do the multi-genre line-up and do very very well. That's largely because the same people go less often - the crowd is new and excited every single time, instead of "what are you doing tonight? Oh nothing, I guess we'll just go ___ because thats where we always go."
...it's just sad that something that could be really exciting for a LOT of people is going to be really exciting for only a small market now, if these rumors are true. (we don't even know)
I was really hyped about an Aria-esque after hours. :( |

Do Fabric or Heaven do a multi-genre thing?
Personally I'm glad that we have a great new club that is willing to bring in top house DJ's for extended sets. Maybe finally we'll see Danny Tenaglia in this city. And having an extended set from Steve Lawler wouldn't hurt either.
And I doubt that the crowd for this club will quickly turn into typical Breathe or Spin Sat's crowds, simply because of the cover charge. |

| I'm sorry but I like the fact that Boa is 21+ and the crowd was more mature (in dress and attitude). I love Guv & Systems but I hate being approached by kids who are obviously younger than 19 and being asked for drugs etc. And the best part was there were no drunk people!! Nobody slamming into me or stepping on my toes. Really nice chilled atmosphere perfectly suited for a prog set. I'd like to see Boa stay this way because the mature clubbers in Toronto prefer prog and would rather not go to an all-access type of event (prog in main room trance in KH for example) at Guv where it'll be packed like sardines. |

Let's be honest here: if Boa opened as an all breaks club or whatever, you guys would be disappointed as much as I am. I understand I'm a minority in that I don't like progressive music, but how can you not see that an all-progressive all-the-time club is going to get boring? ESPECIALLY when there are already two progressive house nights at major clubs in the city that are very well established. |
