anyone ever screw up big time while spinning live?
such as forgetting to turn down the volume fader before beat matching  |

done that before yes
Taken the wrong record off
Stylus snap while scratching
Knocked the punch buttons with the x fader being off- thereby cutting the output
Had people in the booth lean on the record and stop it/knock it
drinks spilt on my records/the mixer/turntables
records/cds stolen
all sorts of diasters-you name it its probably happened-thankfully not recently

it happens to the best of them...
its all about how you handle the situation. |

| A couple of weeks ago, I forgot to turn off the crossfader and the sleeve of my jacket caught the fader and pushed it to the left. That killed all the sound and I stood there scratching my head for a few seconds until I realized what happened lol. Nevertheless, some people cheered thinking I was doing it on purpose so that kind of made it a bit better. |

He he... Yes!
I think I have achieved all that has been said by Freak at some point in my life.
The thing I just hate the most are vinyl jackers, that's why I tend not to allow people to look through my records now.
When I have been in a club with bad or no monitors whilst mixing in headphones I have performed a perfect mix only to realise that it's all been in cue mode and that he dance floor has just heard the track playing just finish and then have me look all pleased with myself still hearing the music throug the phones. Only to be tapped on the shoulder by one of the other DJs... (One of the dangers of having to mix in the headphones).
Cheers

Oh yeah been there done that. Everything sounded fine till I realized the other track wasn't coming in over the speakers. That was thanks to the audio guys arranging the channels incorrectly so what they said was Deck 3 into channel 3 was actually going into channel 4. Fun  |

| i stopped the wrong cd once the first time that i played out. but it was wicked early in the night and the only people there were my friends and little brother. i havent played out using records yet but in my bedroom while making mixes i've taken the the needle off the wrong record. |

funniest ive ever seen was when i had a night off, and went in to see a good dj mateof mine working- he turned the wrong plug socket off at the wall- so instead of some of the booth lighting going off, the cd player turned off- and he uses 99% cd.....
i tried not to laugh.........much
 |

I was hanging out with my buddies who dj every week for about 1500-2000 people. Well they mainly use cds and one friend started playing the wrong track for some reason, so he sat in front of a few thousand people skipping through the tracks of the cd.
pretty funny, he played it off and said over the mic, "yeah so what, I ed up". ah damn funny. |

havent yet done it myself, but then again, i dont have that many hours under my belt. i've seen this, normally by local rookie DJs:
- catch the needly by it's "handle" with your shirt sleeve
- shut off the wrong CDJ (Saeed did this, some promoter was talking to him, so he was distracted)
- tried to play with a CDJ without knowing how the loop functions worked, set a completely ed up loop, not know what you did
- slightly trainwreck, and the incoming track is faster than the current one, instead of slowing it down, speeding it up by mistake, making your screw up more evident
- get distracted and let a track finish before you start mixing the other one in
