First of all I'm not a Dj and anything but I wonder how do you handle with those people? I've noticed that when you spin in the club Djs keep their records behind them. And someone can steal records. Don't you worry about that? Is that happening often?
In general, Who are vinyl jackers, I assume that other djs in booth.
I'd like to know that. :)
Have you ever caught one?
I'm asking because I wonder.

no its rarely other djs- they generally have a respect for other djs tunes (the majority anyway)
its normally the customers, people bugging you for requests etc who see the opportunity and grab a few
Ive had an entire cd wallet taken before, a small bag of 12"s, and the odd one or two 12"s
other friends have had big (80 capacity) pro boxes taken, and also smaller bags.
Also i know of djs who have had headphones go walkies while a warm up dj is on...if its not nailed down.......
I am very very careful now, and i choose where i put what in the console carefully now-depending on the venue. Its my livleyhood,so i cant afford to lose them, although they are insured- some of them have taken me years to find and would be a ball ache to replace |

| i spun at a houseparty where some guy brought all his records over, we both ended uyp way to drunk... i dont remember getting home that night... but someone stole all his records, which incidentaly had 2 of my records in it i found out. we both called eachother the next day asking to get our records back... lol what a ty night, for him anyways. dont know who stole them. or what kind of people do this. they HAVE to be stoners... damn stoners... i read somewhere that smoking marijuana leads to an 80% increase in the likely hood to steal. scary isnt it? damn with how much i smoke im bound to become a thief.. |

In Freaks line of work dealing with drunk light fingered punters is always a hazard and there are some shameless bastards out there too.
It's different in an underground club. There are a lot of light fingered DJs about too. Especially in the less organised ones where the promoters have got their mates DJing or the promoters themselves are the DJs. I lost both of my copies of Jose Amnesia - The Eternal in the same night and I know who did it too.
The guy knows I know too. We were due to play a night together recently but for some strange reason he never showed. He knows I would have killed him that's why!
When you are 5ft 6 and about 65kgs and the DJ with his back turned to you is 5ft 11 and 98kgs (and not fat either) why the hell would you even think to take anything from him? Especially in front of people you know will snitch on you... Guy must have a death wish (And he knows he has it comming!)
Admittedly it is different when you get to play the better run clubs that pay better wages and so on as you get to deal with pro's rather than the big fish in the little pond so to speak.
I played the Dogstar in Brixton just before Christmas (Not know for it's trance events but nevermind) and one of the DJs nearly left with my Senns. "Oops sorry, I thought they were mine" was the response. Sheeesh!

Yes I hate anyone that's dishonest enough to steal from another person who is doing something they love and putting their hard earned money into it. It's pretty damn low.
