Ive had a pair of tech1200s for 2 years now, and bought a pair of CDJ800s about 2 months ago...
why did I buy the CDJ800s? because vinyl in my area is

I live in Toronto, the 4th largest city in North America with a population at about 5-6million people (including suburbs and such). There are plenty of vinyl shops speckled all over the city, which I used to visit quite often... but every single time I go, I get disappointed by the lack of selection when it comes to trance...

I'll come in with a list of maybe 6 or 7 tracks that have been released for months and they dont even have one.
but why??? toronto has a relatively huge trance/house scene for a city on this side of the Atlantic - and yet all these stores sell is cheesy trance and techno (although I cant complain about the jungle/dnb selection at most stores).

so whats my alternative? buy online you say?
that means I have to import from the UK, considering no north american vinyl shops sell good stuff. so, I pay for the record, pay for the shipping, pay for the tax, and pay for the duty! and the delivery can take a month!!!

I guess I wouldnt be complaining if I wasnt listening to ASOT every week and checking up on the 'New releases' forum every day, hearing all these wicked tracks being released in Europe

of course, I always find some little gem in the vinyl shops, but for the most part as of late Ive been downloading and burning and CD-DJing (which is actually harder than vinyl spinning in my opinion, except for cueing).

hey, maybe my bitching and complaining will end when I move to London in a year and a half... until then I'm sticking mainly to my CDdecks (dont worry, I buy CD's as well to compensate for the money I would normally spend on the artist's vinyl... which are hard to find also :( )

my $0.02 :)

or you could order from a few of the shops that actually carry what you want and dont cost an arm and a leg to get it to you (dancegrooves & planetx)....

or, you could just bring you list to the record stores the days they place their orders and have them order the records for you.

i hear that.. i'm in Calgary and since Feroshus closed its doors (RIP) the only place in town to buy any vinyl is Phonics, but i refuse to support any store whose sole advertising slogan for years was "F*CK TRANCE"

so instead i support the boys over at www.juno.co.uk
if you order 4+ rekkids at a time, even with the cost conversion and shipping added on, you're still only paying about $12-$14 a record (canadian) which is probably less than what you'd pay locally, although you still gotta wait like a month :P

Yea.. Im a calgary resident myself, and I DO shop at Phonics, and up until recently I haven't had MANY problems with records. I give them a list of what I want, and they usually come thru. But lately it has been getting bad. Bringin in the wrong mixes, or just can't find it. Like they cant seem to find some of the most popular tracks out..

I haven't bought a record for prolly a good month now. :(

I use to be buying almost every week.

**EDIT**: -=:EPoC:=- check your PM.

yup.. buy online.

since I started buying online i never waste time at the record store... I get better deals, get tracks and promos that I'd never find locally, and it all gets dropped off at my door!

the record shop I go through auto bags all my favorite labels. I don't even have to worry about selecting them.

Just gotta find the not-so-well known gems ;)

I really dont know what your complaining about? Toronto is very good for record stores, much better then where Im living now (Montreal). As far as trance goes the best stores are release and the pit, although Play De Record sometimes has some very rare vinyls lying around. My advice is to look around the aforementioned record stores, and if you still cannot find what you want then ask them to order it for you, they are almost always happy to oblige.

check out dancerecords.com! they have a bomb ass selection and have REALLY REALLY good customer service. I've ordered over a hundred records from them and only had one problem. My order came a few days late.. no big deal. They are a bomb ass website and they have a great selection. If the record you want is out, just let them know and they'll send you an email when it is in. I have never had a problem with them and they're really quick and easy to order from.

Have you ever looked at the sticky thread entitled "RECORD STORE LIST"? Right up top it has 8 online vinyl shops just for Canada. I have personally used djmr.com many times and they always throw in a free white label with every order. Check them out. The selection is decent, though it doesn't always update enough to buy from them every time. I usually buy about every 2-3 months from them, but hey, you have 7 others to choose from!

Can't you people order vinyl in your local shop ?? I live in belgium, but if I can't find a record and it's all out, I leave them a list, and they order them for the next shipments and I got my vinyl... DJ'ing with downloaded MP3 is total crap btw, at least buy them from Napster if you're so concerned about the artists. And the online shops are also very good, so really ..
