!! My Audio Productions !!
View this Thread in Original format
Generation X
hi. i've been browsing these forums for a while now. i have some pretty neat stuff if i say so myself production wise i've made in the past year or something. anyways just a little of information about me. i am 15 live in ottawa capital of canada. started listening to trance 3 years ago. now not as much as i've found new genres and artists that i can't get enough off outside of trance. but it's still great (certain songs/artists). anyways i've tried producing using many programs. i only have a computer. no other hardware or good soundcard or anything. tried learning piano for a year sucked (i wasn't good and the lessons sucked) so stopped. but i have some melodies i come up with sometimes. anyways. i've tried different programs ranging from buzz to logic audio to fruityloops. i am kind of lazy so i used the least complicating which was floops. i have the latest version now.

once in a while i sit down and spend 5-40 min doing fun in floops. anyways i never finish any tracks. just make fun experimental . anyways. i want to see what you guys think of some of my stuff. none of it is full tracks. some i spent more time on then others. some are just little samples of a beat and a melody/bass. some are pretty good to me anyways. most of it isn't really trance, some of it is i guess. i can't really pinpoint any genres for anything. none of them are even full songs. but i just want to see your opinions. i've uploaded 9 .mp3 files. Have a listen please and tell me whatever goes through your head! Oh yeah any help on fruityloops like how to master/level like that please tell me anything you can i don't know how to make anythign sound professional really in floops itself. and using outside mastering tools is not something i want to do right now even though i KNOW it is the best solution yes. but just tell me whatever anything. well TIA!! sorry to write so much. i'm sure you didn't have anything better to do though right ;)

it's alright. but remember they were all fun experimental productions made in like 5-40 min. for fun not trying to make anything extraordinary or amazing you know. but i might make some real full songs soon. they'll be way better than this i hope. but i'd still like if somebody could read my first post fully and help me out here. TIA.

I think the other guy is being a bit harsh. Considering you're only 15 then I think its a pretty good effort!
My only word to you is to encourage you in your music education, that is... learn some music theory and more basic fundemental stuff that will help you understand what makes "good sounding" melodies and the use of things like correcting dissonance, etc. Lot of techniques used by the pros are basic principles that you haven't really understood or displayed in these samples.
Your rythm and timing seems to be right on, and obviously you have some skills with the programs out there, so all in all I'd say you are definitely on the right track.
Good Luck FKid;)

thank you aura i have already printed out your post :) anyone else?

oh yeah somebody tell me what they liked the most out of those 9 audio files please...

I kinda liked 4 and 9; you're getting some okay sounds out of it. Not really sure what there is to comment on... Drums are incredibly primitive in all tracks and as the other dude mentioned you're out of key now and then.
Generation X
yeah i just mess around in fruityloops trying to get something i like. i don't think about any keys, proper technique i dunno just experiment. i used to have an midi keyboard to play melodies, but my little brother got it upstairs now. i am getting a drumkit soon so i am gonna be playing that and jamming with some friends covering some billy talent... well thanks again so far everyone. more comments are definitely welcome and tia!

There is A LOT worse out there man. This stuff sounds good compared to some of the out there today! Keep up the good work and remember , practice practice practice and learn.

PS- Don`t let anyone bring you down. If you listen to it and you can HONESTLY say that you like it then let it be no matter how many people dislike it! Someone will like it eventually and thats all that really matters.
Generation X
thank you oxygen. another post to print out and remember. practice is what i will do.

4 i think is your best. all the sounds mesh real well. sounds good. sounds 100 times better than 2 and 3. i was impressed. so you definitely got some talent. ive heard worse from some on this site. dont get down. stick with it cuz think about how good you can be in 5 years or somthing. (4 is awesome):D

My (very unprofessional) opinion, and I'll basically just judge the melodies since the rest is pretty generic:

The melody in One could certainly be exploited, I think if it was taken in a sorta Boards of Canada direction something good could be the result.

Two and Three are scary. I'd avoid this kind of stuff in future.

Four is interesting and could perhaps be the foundation for a eurotrance-ish song.

I like the melodies in Five, just be careful beacuse the bass doesn't match the other tracks perfectly in some places.

Six is a bit too "generic trance" really and this has been done millions of times before but in theory it could still work with some fresh sounds.

Seven doesn't seem too inspired to be honest.

Eight and Nine seem the best suited for trance because I love this kind of melody. If you were to try to make a whole track out of these I'd suggest Eight, Nine or Four, particularly if you were trying to make trance. While I agree that you may need more practice you've obviously got some creative talent which is hard to learn... so don't despair. Technical skill takes time and dedication but it can be achieved if you want it.

thank you very much for the great comments. however i don't see how two and three are soooo bad? i like them actually. lol. can you tell me why three is bad? two is just some crap small short thing but three is good i thought anyways. thanks so far and in advance.
