The most dangerous country to world peace
View this Thread in Original format

Ok, this is a new poll to try to capture what is TA's major opinion on this.

What is the country most destabilizing to world peace nowadays?

-Note that world peace doesn't necessarily mean it can cause a worldwide war, what i meant is what country can most easily cause a war, even if regional.
trancaholic
I voted US, because of Bush's preemptive-strike policy and his proved villingness to go to war.
Other than that, I assume that the land of Isreal (the physical area, that is) would be the most contested area in the world right now.
I'm curious as to why you put the EU on the list? It is not a country, and has so far failed to act in unison on any war-like matters.
ehehe
HAHAHA, Serbia-Montenegro?!!
It may be destabilizing to Balkan peace, but world peace?! I just don't see SCG as a threat towards world-peace, especially since world-peace never will be established to begin with. And I doubt they'd start any more local wars for a while.

I'd vote Denmark or Italy. I know, sounds bizarre, but just wait and see.
St_Andrew
i would like to vote "terror" but that wasn't an alternative so i voted US for pretty much the same reasons as trancaholic, even though i realize that in the long run they _may_ be good for world peace.

Ultra-nationalism is on the rise again in Serbia! I wouldn't admire another war... even if it takes 30 years (remember Germany?).

And about world peace, please read my first post better!
Yoepus
Wow I'm glad this poll is completely deviod of nations such as "Iran", "Saudia Arabia", "Syria", "Libya" hmm, I guess they would have no bearing on world peace at all..

You might as well put Norway, Japan, and Switzerland up there in your list amoung countries like Israel and the USA to make your point:rolleyes:

For crying out loud, even the Vatican poses more threat to world peace than most the countries you have listed in the polls.

Although for some odd reason you did afterall decide to include one rouge nation after all, North Korea, and that is the nation I have voted for. I simply do not trust a rouge state that's economy is fueled by its three major exports of Arms, Drugs, and Counterfieting. If a nation like that gets WMD it just might add it to its economical exports.:(

The USA and Israel are both interested in world peace (The USA rational to go to war with Iraq was to ensure STABILITY in the middle east region) and Israel has no intention of threating WORLD PEACE. So long as Israel is a democracy it poses little threat to the world, if one is to believe the theory which states that no democratic countries fight one another, which seems to have held remarkably true in the last century.
tathi
depends what your connotation of peace is i suppose

where is australia on the poll? in the last year we have annexed 20 Pacific nations and no one noticed!
DrUg_Tit0
Hm, this is a pretty difficult choice, to say the least. Israel and the middle east have always been a critical region, but I don't see a new war between Israel and any of its neighbours emerging soon, only the continuation of regular israeli-palestinian shootings and car bombs. The US's preemptive strike policy is certainly a threat, but it's forces are already busy in too many places, while the budget is in big deficit, so starting another war would not be the wisest idea (although Bush doesn't strike me as a person that makes wise choices). China may invade Taiwan, but then again, the chances for that are not that great either. SCG has expressed some aspirations towards croatian territory, but the country is weak and the regime is as stable as a deck of cards, so I don't see any agression comming from them soon. Perhaps the biggest local threat from the countries listed is the North Korea, as they are always starting provocations and probing their enemies' determination of fighting back. I doubt, however, that they would start another war without Chinese consent. I don't see EU or Russia posing any threat whatsoever, except maybe if Russia intervenes in some of the former soviet states. India and Pakistan have recently warmed up their relations, so I don't see a war breaking out there either.

But, the countries that I think are most likely to start a local war have been excluded from this poll. Like, you know, all those countries from that big hump of land below Europe. What's it called? Afrehkuh? Ephrika? I forgot.
NYCTrancefan
Borron I must say that this poll is absolutely flawed, what do you consider to be world peace. Millions die in African wars but that doesn't represent a threat to world peace? Where are all the anti-war demonstrators when Africans are being butchered through their neighbors involvements and international arms dealers who provide weapons for different government and rebel factions as was the case of the D.R.Congo, Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Ivory Coast, Liberia. Why is the Middle East any more important than Africa after all many of these anti-war supporters claim to abhor the killing of innocents.

How ironic and selective the human mind can be for reflecting the viewpoints that supports its stance. If only the concept of world peace was so cut and dry as selecting one of these nations then the U.N might not have been necessary. Off of your list is Syria which has affirmed Israel as an enemy, why is the E.U. even on there. More importantly you leave off the international scourge of "terrorist thugs" that preach violence in the name of a beautiful religion in Islam when its edicts are respected and not abused by so called "Holy Wars", whatever the hell that means. Your poll leaves off what represents the biggest threat and that is terrorism. We can put forth all the rationales about what constitutes terrorism but who died and made Osama the spokesman for violence in the name of Islam, that is the greatest threat today.

Most of the countries that you mention is regionalised. If you want a country then the fact is that the North Korean thug regime under the tutelage of Kim Jong-Il represents your "most dangerous threat" for the mere fact that they want payoffs like a bunch of mafioso bosses to avoid any ratcheting up of their pathetic behaviors. No one should be surprised however since South Korea has always given them tons of dollars to merely show up at inter-Korean conferences in the form of the Sunshine Policy and through South Korean businesses. North Korea seems stagnated in time with allegiance to one man, the populous remains isolated, ignorant of the outside world and believe what they are told unless they escape and make it out of that social hellhole, that Borron is the "most dangerous nation" and I didn't even mention their weapons as yet that would not hesitate to light up Seoul and Tokyo if the regime is "threatened" The U.S. should allow South Korea to pony up all of the protection and extortion fees for their safety from North Korea nukes by disengaging from dialogue with North Korea and letting the neighbors handle it.

Well, I must say im not surprised by Trancefan and Yoepus responses; after all, you are in the poll's list.

First to answer Yoepus:

Iran? What kind of threat does iran pose? Do you think Iran's going to invade what? Iraq?

Saudi Arabia... see above.

Syria! Why what a surprise. What are they going to do? Invade Israel? You live there, you should know better, that the IDF are 100 million times a stronger, more effective army than Syria has or probably will ever have. So what kind of threat does Syria pose? You know, Israel has been occuping Syrian land for 37 years now.

Lybia.. don't you hear the news? they are coming closer to the so-called "developed nations", and their import ban is soon to expire.

About North Korean exports... i do believe they export drugs and weapons, but what do you mean by counterfieting?
And about weapons exports... who do you think is the country which exports and sells the most weapons? (USA)

Now to trancefan and drug tito,

About Africa. Well I thought a lot about including africa, but honestly, I would have to make a new poll. There are too many options.
And while a conflict between any of the countries present in this poll would be internationally noticed, almost any conflict in africa would be unnoticed, or simply reported and left alone. I mean, a conflict in Serbia would attract Nato and UN troops, but a conflict in Africa... yeah right, maybe ten years after it started. And i doubt the US would even refer to it. Liberia was an exception which confirms the rule.

I've only included the EU, Russia and China to make the list longer. Because the EU has nothing to attack, Russia is well-ocuppied with the Chechen problem and China will think twice to attack Taiwan even if they declare independence. And I doubt Taiwan would do that, they are a bit afraid.

And of course all threats are regional. You don't expect to see North Korea attacking the US or would you?

You can say what you want, but apart from the EU, any of the countries listed here is a bit destabilizing. Some less, like Russia and China, which only destabilize by political pressure; some in the middle, like Israel which occupies palestinian and syrian land and enrages the arabs or like India and Pakistan which like to step on each other toes quite frequently (that seems to be changing); and some a lot more, like North Korea, which threatens their neighbours on a weekly basis and like the US, which provoked the last "big" war we know of.

For those who accuse me of being biased:

EU opinion poll on the world's most dangerous country

"The European Union scrambled Monday to contain the fallout from a public opinion poll that -- to Israel's fury -- labelled the Jewish state the biggest threat to world peace.
The United States was just behind Israel in the global danger league, in joint second place with North Korea and Iran, according to the "Eurobarometer" poll requested by the European Commission."

Maybe i should have included some other nations, i'm thinking now of Colombia. While as a country is not destabilizing, it poses a threat because of all the terrorist groups acting there; sometimes the action goes beyond Colombia's borders...
