I've seen it happen before. Last semester there was a rather large party where house music was spun the entire night. Not the size of a rave ar anything, but a frat party sized affair. The whole thing was advertised as house music all night. Most of the crowd consisted of regulars from other electronic parties held around the area.
Well about halfway through the night, my friend (who owns the place) is spinning and this girl walks up to him and says something like "Can you please turn off your Techno crap, nobody here likes that ." My friend always being quick on the draw does a hard backspin on the record and cuts the sound. With the crowds attention he then says "Who here wants to listen to some Nelly" When a lot of people laugh he says to her "get the hell out of my house, I think I heard some Spice Girls music down the street."
I don't know if it would work at most parties, especially if the crowd wasn't into the music like at this one, but it was pretty funny when it happened. She turned completely red and went running out. |

yeah, i think the people who get it the worst are the kids in college(like myself)... its so hard for people who grew up listening to one sound appreciate others. Just tell them, they are more nieve for not excepting different styles and honestly if you were more open minded you might understand why i like this so much. However there will always be selfish people in the world who will say 'play what i want, not what you want...'
but yeah, i get it atlest 5 times a day because i spin in a college apartment complex/dorm. |

I work the lights at a club in Madison, WI and I get that alot when house music is being played. But then again when he have a hip-hop night, there's alot of requests for specific hip-hop tracks, so no one is ever really all that happy.
The good thing is that the nights when I get up on the decks, nobody really complains or requests anything too outlandish (maybe stuff like Sandstorm, Better Off Alone, or One More Time, that's about it...) |

ROFL!
That is damn funny how you said it.
Dood i say THEM, you shoulda kicked her out and told her to shut her mouth. I woulda been so god damn frustrated bro. Everyone i hang around with i've corrected when it comes to calling trance 'Techno', and normally, i allways correct people when they do it, i don't care who they are. |
