So I turn up the volume to piss him off to the pint we begin to figth.

i've had the same problem at parties i've spun at. i've had stupid bitchs or guido wanna be pimps come up and ask me to spin hip hop in the middle fo a house set when the place is pumping.
damn sororities hoes mainly are the ones who whine
and the "hiphop" they ask for isn't really hip hop. most of them wouldnt know real hiphop if it kicked them in the ass.
but c'est la vie. thats what happens if you spin at general parties. |

This is hilarious. I thought it was only me...
Yeah I'm a college DJ as well and I get ALL THE TIME! A bunch of my friends wanted to see me spin becasue they've never seen anyone do it...so used to seeing people walk around the halls with a guitar, and then here's a guy with professional DJ equip. So I'm spinning this party, trying to play stuff they could easily get into, and about 30 min inyto it, 2 girls come up to me and say (try to envision a real stuck-up attitude) "Hi, like....are you just gonna be playing....TECHNO all night....can you spin some rap...or like...stuff we've actually heard of?"
Now that was a big concern I had and was hoping that wouldn't come up, but because the point was to showcase something no one has ever heard before I let her have it. "hey, you know what, here's a great idea. Why don't you go get drunk listening to Nelly at the party ___always throws that you go to every weekend and get the out of my appartment. They'd be happy to have his stuff on repeat the whole night cus you just havn't heard it enough times." Although it wasn't as great as doing a backspin and getting the whole room to laugh at her, the priceless moment came when she left giving me the finger.
The bad part was when some of my friends who knew her criticized me for how I treated her, but as far as I could tell, I was just doing what others asked me to do...DJ. Hearing techno for two hours vs the hiphop they'll be hearing 3910729857423570 hours? Please... |

Anytime I am having a house party, this friend of mine always complain about track that I played. Here is what she said
"Umm Limin, your party is dying down, play something that we know"
"Umm Limin, can you play stuff that we know and we can dance to it."
I don't know if she doing this because she never heard the stuff I played or she just wanted to hear her favorite Hip-Hop tracks?
Either way I just cannot give a about what people want to hear, if they are not into EDM. I am pretty sure that someone had a worse story than me but this is just irriating. Why can't those people just shut up and listen to the melody of the music?

ya, you gotta hate the selfish bitches who think that the DJ should play what THEY want to hear (you know, probably because they're thinking they're hot and and that they can get guys to do whatever they want them to do)
just shows the sheer ignorance, arrogance, stupidity, common closed-mindedness, adolescence, immaturity, selfishness, and other personality attributes in the people.
if i was in a situation like that, i'd probably simply say "nope" to their pretentious requests and continue with rocking the decks. |

| my friends always use to do tha to me too when i drove cause i was the only one with a car when i was 16-18. but i always had nothing but my trance in the car, i stopped carrying cds that had my rap/rock etc... and just told my friend to shut up and enjoy the music. it pissed them off but then i finally got alot of my friends into trance. when i have partys i always play my mixes. i've only had 1 or 2 people complain an dits always been a woman. so i've always said STFU or leave. i can't stand people who are so closed minded about music. |

It is true that a DJ should play to a crowd, but there are limits to this. Obviously, the guys (or girls) who posted above me in this thread spin dance music, not hip hop.
If a party is advertised as playing "house music" then people should expect to hear just that, not the latest "hip-hop" tunes that they hear on the radio or MTV.
Also, from what i can gather, the parties were going off in the stories that were told, so why should the DJ play something different for the minority???
Kudos to punchline's friend for sticking it to that girl!!!
