Well Rareware isn't exactly known for a consistent, on-time release schedule. They've only released 2 games in the past 3 years if I'm not mistaken. Star Fox Adventures for Gamecube and Grabbed By The Ghoulies for Xbox (which is subpar); I really wouldn't get my hopes up for PD if I were you and this comes from a HUGE Perfect Dark fan. Rare ain't what it used to be.
Ste
they are both as mint as each other, but my affections lie with doom3 just down to playing it when it first came out and it being the oriignal daddy of them all, it will be great to see it in up to date form, and its scarier!

bu then im looking forward to the interactive movie element in HL2 that the first game provied :)

Latest I got for the kids was a 3.2 Intel with 1G RAM and a 9800 Radeon XT. I saw a slight improvement over the one I bought about 6 months earlier with state of art AMD chip, 1G RAM backed by a 9700 in the graphics when they are running side by side over a cable hookup. I gave up gaming about 2-3 years ago, but the teenagers are always eager to keep up the fight. Half-life series and Doom are biggest competitors with Half-life winning hands down in my experience. However, I don't believe either HL or Doom have caught up with the technology available and there's certainly more room for more realism and improvement.

I also prefer multi player and not single player

MOHAA all the way.

You think MOHAA is realistic? Even on Hard you can take like 5 or 6 good shots before going down. Thats if you dont get insta-health from one of the magical health boxes lying around.

Don't get me wrong, its a fantastic game. But I wouldn't consider it very realistic (though the multiplayer is much more realistic, it only takes 2 shots sometimes).

Anyways, its a really close call. I don't think I can pick one over the other. Half life 2 is probably going to be the one to play for those "holy " type cinematic moments. Valve is really good at creating unique situations like that. However, Doom3 is going to be the champ at scaring the living out of you. I remember playing the alpha. In one of the levels I went down a shadowy hallway, and stopped to admire my reflection and a BEAUTIFUL piece of machinery through some viewing glass, when suddenly I see the reflection of a big huge zombie pop up behind me. Scared the ing piss out of me! I about jumped out of my chair :D . Thats the first time a game has really done that to me since the original Doom.

That makes me so sad. I had such high hopes for that game. This is a pic of the new agent Joanna Dark.. she's a red head now..

The last few levels and the final boss in the original HL frieghtened the hell out of me. That game took a weird, but scary turn. Still the best game ever released.

Inertia
one of the scarient moments in HL was when you drop into the pool and the huge ass anglerfish comes at you, even though it cant getto you because of the shark cage, the element of surprise really got me. the game overall wasnt scary as it was eerie. the "suited man" walking around, that always bugged the hell out of me. i remember quicksaving and trying to blow his ass up. and finding other scientists' corpses in hazard suits on Xen was also quite... disturbing. great ing game.

but if we're talking games that scrae the crap out of you, the Resident Evil series takes the cake...

Definetely Half Life 2. Reasons

Doom 3 is based mostly indoors which makes the game dark and moody which is nice but not as challenging as outdoor environments like in Half Life 2. The changes in scenery make it look so much better.

Half Life 2 from video of both games side by side has a better physics engine with interactive physics. Doom appears to be limited to more basic stuff like stuff falling down stairs

Half Life 2 is more fun imo if it is anything like Doom1 vs. Half Life. Doom3 tends to look like your typical shooter in a mechanical environment with your typical zombies. Half Life seems to be a bit more creative story wise and with their characters.

Multiplayer. Doom3 doesnt have it unless they decide to add it which they need to. Half Life 2 does and its fan base is huge so lots of replayability with various addons.

HL2 better be good because HL1 is probably my #2 game of all time. So I expect pretty good stuff. I'm sure Doom3 will be a hit as well but its a little bit of been there done that to me.

Gosh I havent played any video games in ages, i need something good to come out.
