Since you are in Australia, I would get some Beyerdynamics... Maybe DT250-80?

yea ive been in need of some new headphones for listening to music use only also. I normally just go to best buy and get a pair for like 5-10 dollars, but they usually suck and break in no time. I like the in-ear type, but they usually dont sound as good as the ones that cover your ears. Anyone got some reccomendations for like sub-$50?

Edit: wait did you seriously reccomend 300 dolllar headphones for listenin purposes only? wow you must be made of money lol thats some unneccessary .

That's what most headphones are for, "listening purposes only". It only makes sense that these headphones would cost more than pure DJ style cans. Does it really matter that the soundstage is bigger or that the mids are more controlled when your DJ'ing ?

Im saying unless you have money flowing out of your anus, or some such source. You arent gonna want some 300 dollar headphones to listen to your CD player while walking or whatever it is you need it for. And it does make a lot more sense in Australian dollars, although im still not sure how much that is american.

Once you step out of the super cheap offerings, it's quite easy to get hooked on actually 'hearing' your music and spending $200-$300 on a pair of phones. If you think that's bad, check out the offering in Sennheiser's 'Premier' section: http://www.sennheiserusa.com/pages/...hones/index.htm.

i use etymotic er-4 headphones for listening. they are expencive but worth every penny.

lol... the price tag for sennheisers on the website is high, but if u actually go look for the street value at stores a brand new pair of hd-280's go for 75-90 as apposed to the 200 dollar list price on the website. i got mine on ebay for 60

Just FYI for everyone... if you live places OTHER than Australia, generally the best "Just listening to Trance" headphones are the Sony MDR-CD3000 if you dont have an amp, and the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro if you have a headphone amp... they are considered equal... the DT770 Pro has better bass, the CD3000 has this uber-trippy soundstage...

Ya, but if you take a look at the Orpheus model you'll see what I was getting at. $14900 list price. :D

I'd probably say go with either the HD 25-SP's HD 280 Pro if you want closed phones on a budget, or the HD 25 if you want to buy something that will sound good and will last a while. The latter has all replaceable parts, so if you do get into DJing you don't have to worry about replacing the whole contraption every year or so.

thanks for the input...im probably gonna get them from malaysia...AUS dollar gets like 3 malaysian dollars and things are priced around the same :tongue2
