Think about what you said.. what money would be made if most of the money that is made is late night at bars and/or clubs. |

now thats just silly...do you not know the history of clubbing here? it's meant to shut it down, not frikken make money.
/excuse this post, I had to leave my bar/club at 1:15 this evening and there was nothing else OPEN OMFG!!!
Alot of you muct be from other parts of the states and such, remember how much that sucks???
OK well if not, I am originally from Ithaca, just near Syracuse for you sports fans...Last call was/is at 12:30, sometimes 1am but everyone is gone by 1:30, even on the weekends. Looks like house party time? Heh....who (besides Vic) has a house to host a bunch of ppl...neighbors, etc etc
I hope this is revised again and pls bug the out of this person at the DEpt of Consumer Affairs, time for those many email addys to come in handy...send three!

| I'm just wondering - which part(s) of the proposal would be impossible (or extremely difficult) for places (clubs/bars/lounges/etc) to comply with, in order to qualify for (or retain) the license, and hence be able to stay open past 1 am? |

| Here in manchester most bars close around 1am or 2am and it bloody sucks. The only thing to do after they close is to go home:whip: :whip: this is why I love NYC |

Good question. Do you have any handouts or whatnot from those town hall meetings? also when were they held exactly...a date may help me look I'm not sure.
I looked high and lo on the internet and NYC govs site for the actual bill/resolution or whatever, havn't found it yet. Nor any other mention besides the NY Post and this email, but I'm still lookng. I think personally, the noise issue will become a warrant for the cops to randomly close nightclub events on their whim...even if they are within the law. But I am also somewhat of a conspiracy nut when it comes to Guiliani's NYC...It's got Rudy stamped all over it though. Lets hope I am wrong as this will lead to our clubs eventually saying forget you guys...outta here.
It would be pretty bad for bars in general as they make very little extra cash these days, and may become very very quiet rather than getting the liscence even if they qualify.
(Rule of thumb: At 90 decibels you have to shout at a person whose ear is one foot away from you in order to be heard.) -from ranknfile-ue.org
OK this happens in Bars, even without Music OMFG... |

Meeting happened on June 18, 2003

I'll try to dig up the handouts that were given at the meeting. It contained a lengthy set of questions for people to consider.
Summary of the proposal (in November)

Here's the text of the proposal, as of January 6

Too bad the Naughtybooth site has just been closed. I posted some stuff about this topic over there, and there was some lengthy (and interesting) discussion as well.
Here's an account of the meeting, as posted on the Arc board

There's an interesting video here about the current state of NYC nightlife, under the current cabaret laws

Some articles from NY Times about rewriting the laws

btw, I don't think it's fair to pin this on Bloomberg. As far as I could find, he himself has not said anything about this matter. But maybe someone can prove me wrong. |

| So I guess Broadway shows will have to close too as well as Classical nights at Central Park or Shakespeare in the Park. |

| From what I'm reading, they (club/bar owners) have to comply with certain rules to operate past the 1 AM mark...right? |
