Does ANY trance EVER use anything other than 4/4??
cuz i've heard some interesting rhythms in things like 3/4, 5/4, and 7/8 that i kinda wanna use...
Is it a crime against trance if i were to use some of those?

I can't think of ANY trance track that uses other time signatures. However don't let that stop you from leading the way!
Bismark - Triplet [Paranoxia Mix] has a sort of "triplet" melody but is still in 4/4.
PS - A preemptive note to future posters... just because a track has a breakbeat does not mean it is in a time signature other than 4/4. |

I'm thinking of doing a remix of Gustav Holst's "Mars," from The Planets. It's in 5/4, although I think I'd have to make an intro and outro in 4/4 so that it could be mixed into a normal set. Nobody steal my idea. :toocool:
I do know of one trance song that is in another time signature (I think 9/4). It's at home and I'm at work, so you'll have to wait until I can look it up when I get home this morning. |

You MUST post this remix in the amatuer forum when you finish it! It better rock :) |

There's a lot of Hard Trance/Hardstyle in 12/8. :stongue:
But if you're talking about songs with more or less pulses per bar than 4.... :p
I've heard a trance song that kicked into 6/4 during the breakdown, but I can't remember the name. :(
It's been done, but unless there's a 4/4 intro/outro, you wouldn't hear it in a set. |

hard to write (house) music in 3/4 with these sequencers, i challenge u to do it in fruity...
or maybe its cuz i suck, but last time i tried, it was quite the disaster |

Wallstaedt & Dorfler - Syncronized (Ueberdruck Remix)
The main melody part (about halfway through) is in 9/4. You wouldn't really notice if you weren't counting though. It still has a "four on the floor" feel, although you throw in that extra beat every other measure. |

I'm pretty sure Ralph Fridge - Paradise had a weird time signature, it had four to the floor but the chord sequence repeated every six bars or something, and that didn't exactly do badly!

| I'm pretty sure something weird is going on in Rollerball - Albinoni (Super8 Remix) too. The beat is 4/4 for sure but the phrases seem to be shorter than normal (only 14-15 bars when normally it's 16). Every time I try to mix it it goes off at some point even though the beat and tune start is spot on. |

| I think a trance groove in 5/4 or 7/8 would work fine. I would love to hear the results. |

Ya I notice a similar thing in Ferry's remix of Adagio for Strings (the Barber). I suspect that is not so much the fact that it is not 4/4 but that the phrases do not exactly line up at 16 and 32 bars. Know what I mean? Like if the melody is only 24 bars (or worse 22 or 21 bars) long it will not fit nicly in the usual trance arrangment. |
