Nope it wasn't sarcasm. When you get all sorts of crap on your hands and then touch your records it's never good. Brick dust, paint you name it, loads of that stuff is really difficult to get off your hands but has a nasty habbit of ending up on your vinyl.
Cheers

| I still live with my mum and dad and am as yet nowhwere near the level required to play out, but i'd say i spend about a third of my wage on records. about 200 quid a month. |

You lucky bugger i'm still working on the produce department at safeway part time! :(
I've done a little labouring before, and that was way worse on your hands! |

| I rarely buy vinyl, cuz I'm so broke all the time, but I guess if I loved DJing more I would not spend so much money on my social life. |

I work at a computer company called Sun Microsystems working with the UNIX operating system... They pay me an OK chunk of change... (no one is ever satisfied with the amount of money they make....)
If I buy trax as I find them and hear them off the internet, I probably buy about 6-12 records every 3 weeks on average. (not alot... but it doesn't take an abundance of records to put together good sets, just good, flowing trax.) It really all depends on how many quality trax I can find and how many trax I like to listen to. I purchase the records on my credit card which gives me the 25 days to pay for them.
It's also good to have a good lady. My wife pays my credit card bills cuz I suck at responsibilties...lol ... she supports my habit anyways... So another option is to get a rich lady, or wife in my case...hehe
My friend is a DJ as well. The way he gets money for vinyl is he sells his old stuff on ebay.com. Whether it be old clothes or old cell phones... or old junk. (one mans junk is another mans treasure...)
Another thing...We have a buddy that works for Lucent and he gives us outdated digital Office phones for companies sometimes and we sell those phones for 100$ each on ebay.com and use that money on vinyl...
ALl in all, I think a job definitely helps...
And as was posted previously, buy quality trax that you feel will be classics (or near classics) and that you like to listen to vs. records that everyone is buying... You will be happier with your DJ track selection in the end and you won't feel like you wasted money. |

i work full time and have a cheap car. i buy about 10-15 records a month. if i find a bunch that i really want i will buy them but i am getting to be abit picky. i bought a few just because they were new & cool and i never play them so now i make sure that i really like a song before i buy the vinyl.
i'm a bit of a lush too, if i cut down on the beers i could probably afford some more tunes. |

I'm a full-time Uni student, and I work a half-time salaried job.
I agree completely with the quality over quantity post. For the moment I'm just sitting on the mailing list for one of the local vinyl shops, and special ordering the stuff that sticks out on their list. I've found it to be much more convenient than online ordering.
At this point I'm averaging about 10 records every couple of weeks, mostly because Positiva and others have recently been repressing some of the old trance tracks that I've been wanting to get my hands on. |

i buy 400 records a week, and yes i sell crack.
ok seriously.i picked up 5 records last night and that will have to hold me over for a few weeks. when i first got my equiptment, i went vinyl crazy. i was at the record store like 2-3 times a week buying between 2 and 5 records each trip. i built my collection really fast, and got myself into debt alot faster. now ive settled down and i try to limit myself to 10-12 records a month. btw i work at an electronics store making $7 and hour, so it definitly adds up quick.
as soon as i start selling crack rock again, i will have EVERY RECORD IN THE WORLD!!!!!! muwahahahaha |
