How do you afford to buy your vinyl?

1>I Don't have a car (School is 40 mins away) so I take the bus which is only.75 cents that means that I only spend on transportation 1.50 per day.
2> Last time I bought a pair of jeans and/or a shirt was like 2 years ago. (That's pretty sad uh)

BUT
I can buy many records per week !

I think one of my problems is that I tend to buy the newest releases instead of digging around for tracks that are cheaper and unknown. I've decided to now go after the unknown tracks at the cheaper cost with the occasional anthem here and there. Two records I bought for 5$CAD ended up to be two of my recent favourite tracks. Maybe I'll go after used vinyl too.

My collection has been in the making for about 18 months now. I had bought about 20 or so before then, over a couple of years, but within the last 1.5 years it became a habit. I work part time and go to uni full time, and up until recently have spent way too much on wax. My collection can be seen on discogs, and I have ~130 vinyls. Ready for the punchline? I don't have turntables.

im a senior in high school, so no permanent job. also, i live in thailand, and it is illegal to work unless you are thai (im american). so, i cant get a job (although i do dj once in a while for cash).. so basically all of the money i get for food/weekends/transport, i really penny pinch so i can blow all the rest on vinyl. and of course, the vinyl selection in bangkok sucks, so i have to order online and have them shipped here and just pay my parents back.

damn annoying. but, i am going to the US for university in august, so ill get a job, money, and VINYL :) haha cant wait

Rememberence, at least your recs are all nice and shiny clean.
hehe.

I work part time, school part time, and i live at home and am paying for school out of an education found atm so i basically spend all the money I make, unless there is something special like a trip or whatnot, and i put it away everynow and then.

But prolly around 200 bucks.

haha true true, so many virgin rekkids. Ordered turntable number one a few days back though, so by the end of the week I'll be popping all their little wax cherries!

Nope it wasn't sarcasm. When you get all sorts of crap on your hands and then touch your records it's never good. Brick dust, paint you name it, loads of that stuff is really difficult to get off your hands but has a nasty habbit of ending up on your vinyl.

Cheers

Dude, thats why we have soap and water when your done working...wash your hands. I do paint/body work at my Fathers custom car shop, and theres never a problem with paint and other on your vinyl.

I started collecting vinyl in december of 03. I've got about 90 now. I'm in the navy so dont have to pay for food, housing, utilities, etc. I've yet to buy my turntables.

I've got a phat job as an organic chemist and I just got promoted too! I've got about 200 vinyl and 75 cd singles in my collection now. I usually buy from canada, UK and US, so shipping is usually expensive, so to save I'll get $200 or more at a time.

Ha ha very funny.
Did you know that Auto paint and grease behave differently on your skin compared to household paint, cement dust and all other sorts of industrial strength building materials? Not really talking about the same thing are we? ;)
