So, when Nellie said:

and I've shown there is a difference. You should know the difference... So tell me, Do you want your Microwave to be a MICROwave? Or a MACROwave? There's a huge difference between the two. Micro, and macro aren't the same.
micro- or micr-
pref.
Small: microcircuit.
Abnormally small: microcephaly.
Requiring or involving microscopy: microsurgery.
One-millionth (10-6): microampere.
macro- or macr-
pref.
Large: macronucleus.
Long: macrobiotics.
Inclusive: macroinstruction.

Was it a rather immature and elementary breakdown of the two words? |

The thing creationists forget when they advocate "micro-evolution" as a means of explaining how Noah may have been able to ensure the survival of all the world's flora and fauna, is that the principles behind it are identical to those behind "macro-evolution": the latter just requires more time. Both suggest that through natural selection (observed fact) gradual, progressive changes can occur to isolated populations of any given species (observed fact). The only difference is that those who advocate "micro-evolution" think (somewhat arbitrarily) that species cannot evolve, even over a long period of time, into a different "class" or "phylum" though they believe that a species can evolve into a new species, genus, family or possibly even order in a comparitively very short period of time. So for the poor creationist who is both convinced that evolution is an evil atheist conspiracy and a perfect explanation for the logistics of the Noah myth (how's that for compartmentalisation?), he now believes it is possible that a couple of hundred species can evolve into tens of millions over a mere 5000 or so years, but that a fish cannot evolve into a lizard over a period of hundreds of millions of years (despite a fairly well preserved fossil record of these transitions).
Creationism isn't science, it isn't true and it's hardly worth arguing about. So long as it's kept out of the schools I don't much care. |

Yeah I was up in Sydney for a couple of weeks, so I'm a long way behind on all these topics. Seems like the points I raised had already been raised in that topic. :-/

I think I remember the one you're talking about, but I wouldn't have a clue where I found it. If you want a cheap laugh though, here's a good start:

Hehe, we should ask Nellie whether she thinks the sky is only a firmament that seperates the waters above from the waters below. But wait, shouldn't the sputnik have pierced the firmament? With all the rockets around, it must be leaking all over. I guess god's angels are pretty busy closing up the gaps :) |

Did you say "gaps"?
Careful now, there are many, many, many, many, many, gaps that haven't been filled, you know.
Geez DrUg_Tit0, you're relentless with these polls! |

I have an apology to 'convey' to you, it was only recently that I noticed your pm on infidels.org. For some reason I didn't realize that the words 'you have ONE unread PM' actually meant that I had a pm to answer. :nervous:
Add yes, you have missed all the fun. Having young earth creationists about to toy with is always enjoyable. :thepirate |

Woah, just browsing the forums, it seems Christianity's really come in for some rough treatment over the past few days. In addition to this topic, all the following active topics either criticise or ridicule Christianity in some way:
Poor Jeebus? :( |
Heh, I guess it's a consequence of the fact that most countries with a population used to free speach have christianity as the strongest religion. I'd even go that far to say we're used to christianity being a rather tolerant religion so that we criticize christians for some things we would not criticize other religions for (mainly islam). But since most of my criticism of christianity applies to both judaism and islam as well, I believe I am rather fair on that matter. Fortunately, there aren't any radical jews or islamists on this forum (they most probably aren't permitted to own a computer in the first place), so we are more or less forced to focus our arguments towards the christians. |
