Just recently, under political and economic incentives/pressure from Chinese authorities, during the Chinese New Year celebration on the Champs-Elysees, over 70 Falun Gong practitioners from all over the world were arrested and detained by the French police for wearing yellow or Falun Dafa/Falun Gong embroidered scarves and clothing.

I don't see why not either, it seems quite discriminatory. Let the people practice their religion, I say... I think the government used some excuse like 'these things distance people from each other'... why? Wouldn't it be a better idea for them to try to make society more tolerant to one another?

So you think this is cool ?

I think not.

Ok people, the head scarfs are banned in public schools only, meaning that a teacher should not wear obvious religious symbols when teaching kids. And it's not just scarfs, but other obvious religious symbols as well. I find that perfectly acceptable, a teacher wearing an obvious religious symbol is not far from having a big cross above the board in the classroom. Something a secular country should not allow to happen. But on the streets people can dress any way they please, they are allowed to wear burkas if they want to.

Is it just the teachers though, or the students as well?

I was under the impression that religious iconography of any kind was banned from public schools, but if it's just the employees banned from wearing these things then - even though it's a bit iffy - it's not that bad, nor that irrational. A teacher would be banned from wearing Satanic iconography in any public school anywhere for fear of causing offence, so is it that big a step to ban religious iconography of any kind for fear of causing offence?

numbers of students have already been forbidden to enter a school in the past because of this . it applies to both student and teachers but really the teachers don't give a crap. I've heard some teachers say " If anyone of you comes in here with a cross, kippot, head scarf or any religious symbols I will forbid you from entering my class! " lovely ain't it.....

Liberty Equality Fraternity.... Bs I tell ya!

Didn't they contribute in large part to the " Universal Declaration of Human Rights "

Article 18
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.

Hmm, actually I'm not sure about that. But when you mentioned satanic iconography, I'm certain that most american schools wouldn't tolerate children wearing those either.

where's the issue???

it doesnt only apply to muslims, but jews, sikh, hindou and jdat's hehehe

for example, sikhs wear a traditional "knife" on them, that, keep it at home.
