This opens up potentially devastating opportunities for virus writers, and hackers to discover new windows vulnerabilities, and exploit them rather easily. Think. There are.. believe it or not, BANKS running windows on high level servers. Most large corporations, worldwide run one or more windows machines.
Discuss. |

| Oh good, as if Windows users weren't already open to a myriad of exploits. You'd have thought Microsoft would have been a bit more careful with something like this, but then I guess they've got so much money now that they probably couldn't care less about being responsible for the downfall of society. :D |

hmm not sure if this will help virus writeers what much actually, or of course a bit if they find security holes...
anyway, its cool as hell :D |

| Slashdot crowd seems to think it's either a fake or a partial leak done intentionally by microsoft to lure Open source projects into a bit of a SCO like trap. A bit cynical of them if you ask me, but if it's true; - very clever. |

yeah, they have probably found something in the wine sourcecode that looks like their own, so now they release their own, and then sues whine for violating their ip... damn i thought this was good news at first! :p |

Then again, someone saw the ENTIRE XP Source floating across irc too! I've been reading the slashdot comments and so far no one is really certain. The only way to know for sure is to compile it. We'll just have to wait and see.
I kind of hope its the whole thing tho. I can't wait for haxxored versions of XP lite, free of all those vulnerabilities, and stupid IE does like saving a list of all the websites you visit, or all the cookies, or outlook express saving all the emails you send. |

then you guys forget that these "important" machines are all behind firewalls and that these "important" companies are not at danger like you seem to put it.
Give you an example, some banks are behind 3 to 6 different firewalls ;) good luck for those wimpy worms to pass thru.
small guys will suffer, don't worry about the big guys :P
note: i work at a provincial police org. and we haven't been bothered once by any of the worms and trojans this last year... |
