FRIDAY FEB 13TH
anyone head of a computer malfunctionin because of cold weather?
i had my case in the car for about 2 hours, and it was in teh negatives outside
now my computer starts, does the POST, Ram checks OK.
but i cant hit delete to go to the BIOS settings, and when it gets to detecting IDE drives, nothing is found, and the computer doesn't freeze, i can hear the hard drives spinning, and the HDD light flashing,
but no loading of the OS
UPDATE: FEB 14TH
this morning reset the CMOS battery, booted up, with no HDD's connected, got into BIOS settings, made adjustments
flashed BIOS, restarted
plugged in HD's
back in action. thanks for all the assistance. the chill out room was the spaz out room for me last night |

| havent ever heard of the comp not starting being in the cold. Especially since you say ur hard drive is spinning up and everything seems to be fine. Maybe your keyboard is ed from the cold or something? |

| Keep a keen ear for any beeps it gives? Just pull the video card outta it's slot and back again...and do the same with each major connections on the Motherboard...i.e. the IDE connector...the Power connector... |

| in my iPod i lost all the songs on it because it stayed in my car all night *below zero*. There is a recommended temp/extremes there for a reason. |

how long has it been inside?
there is probably some condensate formed
in that case you might be in luck and after everything dries up, it just might work... |

Whiskers is right, when you bring it in from the cold you get condensation on sensitive electrical parts. Make sure you get it all warmed up real good first. I remember back in Korea, I'd have to warm up the quonset hut a couple hours with the diesel stove for the computer to work - and me as well. It was farking cold, and the computer wouldn't work unless you warmed up the room some. Nothing like frost on the monitor.
Oh, the cool you're thinking about is like when you shoot liquid nitrogen on the CPU chip to overclock it. You certainly want to do no such thing to your hard drive!
Lol!

Warranties normally run a year, but make sure that's your problem and not the hard drive itself.

yeah i think it is, mainly because i cant access BIOS settings ya know..
well at least thats what my educated assumption would be
and trying to access BIOS settings halts the screen, but the HDD light still flashes and i can hear my OS drive spinning |
