Fair enough i am half ojibway and was brought up in the culture and speak ojibway and grew up on a reservation. I would feel very offended had similar comments been made towards my people and I know that most if not all of the members of my community would feel the same. I find it hard to believe that you would take similar comments so lightly had they been expressed towards our nation!!
However, your community might be different. which reservation are you from???? are you status or non status and which treaty are you part of ?

why? because for $1 mil, our city (and country) was the centre of his show for a while. That is priceless "advertising" and was the main motivation, I'm sure ;) |

Actually, my mother and her siblings were the last generation to claim 'Métis' status (non-status since Métis isn't even an official word in the eyes of the Government; a different arguement).
There's actually native indian on both sides of the family but closest is my mom's side which is Cree (hence my poker straight hair and darker complection :p)
I've never actually lived on a reservation and can't claim the same community spirit like yourself.
I guess I take the comments lightly because I believe getting worked up over someone's else's opinion I don't see as moving forward.
Had the comments came from a politician or someone else other than a comedian I might have agreed with those that took offence.
But I'm taking it in the context in which it was delivered; as a joke.
Have we gone that far backwards in our emotional developments that we can't laugh at ourselves?
What did we think Conan was going to do when he came here.
You just know he was going to pick on all things Canadian; I really don't see the big surprise and fuss...

The lack of a sense of humor in people these days is going to be the demise of everything that is good and fun...Loosen your stupid ass personality and laugh at yourself or others.
Laughing is like medicine. It will only make you feel good, laughing at other people, why the hell not. If its a generalization, all the better for it. French Canadians are only proving Conan right, by getting upset over something so stupid and pathetic. Its cheap humor laugh at it or change the channel. B i t c h about it and become a huge loser.

If you've watched other Triumph skits, you would know it's just cheap, stereotypical humour.
Personally, I think it's good that Triumph has raised the issue of the riff between Quebec in the rest of Canada, because it's an important issue, as opposed to Janet Jackson's boob, or Kobe Bryant's rape trial.

Anybody who was offended by Conan's shows (especially the Quebec one) needs to check their pulse and see if they are still alive in the 21st Century. Making fun of things is FUNNY...it's not intended to be serious. I was in tears during the Comic Dog Quebec segment...hats off to the ONLY interviewee who actually had a laugh. All the rest were actually offended...I've only been to Montreal once and I didn't get the impression that the French were that sensitive.:rolleyes:
And Alexa McDonough...what a joke she is and what a goddamn joke her party is. She'll say whatever she can to get votes from anyone and she'll pick the "hot topic" of the day to do so. |

we're the joke because we have a sense of humour? In case you didn't watch all five shows, Canada as a whole was poked fun at, just like how Conan pokes fun at the USA and just about everyone around the world EVERY DAMN SHOW.

i am neither whiney nor a frenchman.
It was funny at some points yes, but in general it was really bad and especially because it coming from Toronto. The worst wasn't the dog itself, but the crazy reaction from the crowd.
Anyways, its so easy to brush things on the side like you guys do when you are not targeted.
Frankly, none of you guys get the point of why this is so bad and nowhere in this thread do I see a sign of solidarity. |
