DigiCam Recommendations

I need a nice, sturdy, reliable (that won't up with a little beach sand, etc.) and quality digital camera for this summer, and that takes vid clips longer than just 30 sec. Something in the range of $500 USD. Also one that runs on AA batteries instead of rechargables and thats fast/easy to set up on netcafe computers to upload pics/vids.

Can anyone recommend anything?

:)

Panasonic DMC-F1 has 3.2 Megapixel and a Leica lens :toocool:

Just $330,-

It's better in making pictures than videos though...

Epinions is a great review site btw :)

let's be serious, digital cameras are for taking digital pictures, not videos. video quality isn't that great usually.

i'd recommend investing into a canon

leica makes really good camera lenses if i'm not mistaken... thanks i'll check it out...

EDIT: looks good, but the 10 fps makes me cringe...

as for cannon, i was gonna go for the S400 originally, it seems really good and the reviews are all positive...

I want a digital SLR they are Godly and finally getting cheaper, they will take better shots than any other POS insta snap digi cam out there.

i want one too but those things are way too heavy to carry aroun in a club cos thats mostly where i take photographs

and if ur thinking of taking those on a trip...best of luck in enjoying urself cos ur gonna be worrying bout ur camera the whole time...

unless ur into professional photography as a hobby or a proffession, its pointless to get an SLR

If i were you id go with Nikon. They specialize in lens technology. I just bought a Nikon Cool Pix 4300 Camera. Its amazing. 4.0 megapixel 12 scene modes. PM me and i can show you some pics ive taken with it.

Only brands you can go for are canon or nikon

But in my best suggestion the powershot canon cameras beat the nikon cameras by a lot in quality and clarity. The images are much sharper and you can change the lens :). I was about to buy a coolpix camera but then I read the reviews and asked my friend for advice since he's a pro at digital cameras. Lucky bastard got a digital rebel for 1700 with new lens and a gig card :p.

I have the powershot a80 4 megapixel and its amazing. If you saw my panorama shot thread thats what it looks like. I just resized the image since the max size was huge.

But ya if you check the top 5 in that price range the powershots are the best.

Powershot S400 is a very nice, and small camera. No complaints here, except I haven't quite figured out how to do wide angle shots. You might want to also invest in a larger CompactFlash card, as 16MB isn't that much, as you'll soon find out.

i got myself a canon s400 last year. i love the cam, its compact, 4 megapixels, etc.. it came with a 32mb card, i then bought myself a 256.

i also got the chance to play around with an olympus 3 megapixel cam, the pics turned out awesome with that cam.

but, i still prefer my canon :D
