I used to be like that. If it wasn't hard or uplifting, and played at a relatively fast speed, then I didn't like it. But that's changed now. Although I still listen to the harder side of things, I think Markus is one of the best DJ's I've ever heard. His music wouldn't be good to dance to in a club (for me at least) because it's too slow, but that doesn't make him any less of a DJ (or producer for that matter).

Take the big names: Tiesto, PvD and Ferry. I only really like Tiesto for his remixes (which he didn't exactly roll out many of last year), I only like PvD because his sets are generally faster and good to dance to, and I haven't seen Ferry yet. Although they're good, they all seem to play the same music. There's nothing particularly interesting about them.

With Markus, his sets are unique because (as far as I've heard) there aren't many people out there who play tunes like he does. His remixes are outstanding, and make for great listening in the background while you work. I think he easily compares to the top guys.

markus' mixing skills are incredible....he always has the beats matched perfectly, and the timing/ phrasing of each song perfectly in place in his sets...i think markus is 10 times better than tiesto...for the fact that he does 100% of his tunes and remixes...and he doesnt mix half assed sets.....so producing wise and djing wise... it think the list of top 5 should be like this.....

1. Armin Van Buuren
2. Markus Schulz
3. PVD
4. Ferry Corsten
5. gabriel and Dresden

6....sorry tiesto :-(

i question the usefulness of comparing dj's with such different styles -- it's apples and oranges methinks (the fact that you're a tiesto-phile from back in the day makes your list even more surprising... ;) )

your mixing sucks. you have bad taste. i'll forward this to Tiesto, I hope he never plays one of your tracks ever.

Why do you take people's opinion of Tiesto as a personal attack against yourself? I too rate all those DJ's Elevation listed above Tiesto as well, but why do you care so much? Plus he put forward some valid points.

because i heard an Elevation mix the other day and it was the most atrocious thing ever. trainwreck after trainwreck and no coherence at all. just because he's a 16 year old producer doesn't mean he has the authority to bash any of the top djs, especially when he obviously doesn't have a clue about mixing.

i don't take it as a personal attack, I take his comments as an attack on the history of art.
