Trance mixing/Mediocre setup

I've read too many threads to count on beginner dj setup and "I'm buying new gear" and I think I'm ready to make my move. I've been listening to trance for a few years now, and I'm ready to start mixing. I am going to buy a set of Technics 1200's(of course) and a Vestax PVC-275(of course). Just for my own assurance..this is suitable for trance mixing, right? Could I better this setup for the same amount of money? And lastly, what kind of 1200's should I get? Are there any real differences other than color? Just FYI, I've never mixed before. I'm just a lover of the music and I'm ready to participate.

Thanks

P.S. I still rock to dylan

they're all good. mk2's are standard, m3d's have no click in the middle of the pitch control and slightly higher torque. mk5's are upgrade of m3d's with higher torque and adjustable brake settings for ur platter rite under the platter itself, and the mk5g is the newest one with pitch lock, and some other stuff. basically just look for mk2's or m3d's on ebay cuz u can find a pair for about 450-700 depending how hard you look. i got my m3d's for 530 on ebay. also, the pcv-275 is VERY good for mixing trance. it basically will have everything you'll need and more. oh and for the price u'll spend which can go for about 800 total, there aren't many other setups which can match.

Yes, that's an amazing setup to begin with. It will be perfect to spin trance, house, techno... whatever.

Try to get m3d's or mk5's, but don't sweat over it. If you are offered a good deal with mk2's, then go for it.

Well I thank you both, I guess I am headed in the right direction then. Now just to see if I have any skill on the tables when I get 'em. I may buy a CD deck too for CD-R's. It's alot of work to find the vinyls I want. I'm willing to do it, but I want a backup for extremely rare songs, and later on down the road when I produce my own tracks I can slip them in on my listeners :disbelief

^^ Actually the M3D, MK2, & MK5G all have the same torque; the difference in the MK5G, that I've noticed cause we use them at some of the parties we throw here in Sacramento. is the Anti Skate is far more advanced on the MK5G, so the MK5G causes less inward force draw on the needle, improving the tracking with some good needles almost ten fold over the MK2, or M3D. Plus it causes less wear and tear on your vinyls than the other 2, so I can see it being more economically friendly to any rare vinyl's you'd use! You can adjust the break, & start timing but it does'nt work as well as the Vestax PDX2000's so not much use for that. The main draw has to be the +/- 15% xtra pitch, which truly gives you the ability to mix almost any genre of music together! And you get the ultra slick looking blue led's another plus!

Is all that really worth the extra money?

whats your budget? i have been totally happy with the mk2's .. if you are worried about the click @ 0 , don't mix there :) you can never go wrong with the vestax.. save the money on buying the mk2's (rather then buying higher priced models) , and get a good pair of needles.. for trance i like the ortofon E's (good sound for recording aswell) .. and for pounding techno, i like my stanton 680 Hp's .. whatever you decide to get..you ARE going to be broke..

HAVE FUN!

Well I just got out of high school, so I still live at home, and I work a full time job. This is a great time in my life to buy things. Every month I spend about $700-$800 on hobbies. Last month I bought two shure beta 57a's, one shure beta 58a, a mackie c300i, Vox wah, and a TC M300. I sing in a rock band. But we kicked our drummer out of the group, so we can't really play anymore. We did alot of zeppelin. Well, it was mostly zeppelin. So I'm going to turn to my second love, trance. I plan on using the c300i when I mix, because it does get very, very loud. But anyways, for this month I am looking to buy a trance mixing setup. At least part of it. I'd like to buy as much as possible this month, I want to start as soon as possible. That's a good idea, though. I think I'll go for m3d's and save the rest for needles.
Percy
And about needles..what kind exactly should I get? What do you mean by this Ortofon E? lol
trancinchink
because your just starting, awesome needles aren't exactly neceessary. i used stanton al500's. they are very cheap and good quality for the price. a lot of people complain about them but i've recorded 2 or 3 sets with them and the sound quality is fine. not amazing but good. however, if u want to spend money on good quality needles, go for either the shure whitelables, or the ortofon concordes. for ortofons, you can either get the dj-e or the nightclub -e. the e stands for elliptical. i dunno, there's other needles too. i just dont feel like typing anymore... lol.

lol..thanks dude. I understand. I've been up so I have a weird feeling in my eyes. It's like cottonmouth..my eyelids keep sticking to my eyes it's really starting to upset me. I guess nature has it's ways of keepin you down when it wants to. I'm hittin the sack.
Briden
yeah, my eyes are starting to do that too, it's even worse when you have contacts. but anyway, 2 techs and a vestax PCV-275 is a wicked set up to start with, it's what i started with, and am still using 2 years later. I may eventually upgrade to an allen and heath or rane or something else ridiculously expensive, but for now, my vestax is awesome.
