no, that's not what it's like saying. but if you have sex on your computer, you're likely jacking off to it. and there's a pretty damn good chance that what people masturbate to, they'll have sex with sometime in their life.
ALL sex with children is rape. if they are 17+ (in NYS), it's not rape (unless forced). I never said forcible. even if a child consents, it's rape. Sex can be had with girls that is not rape.

that's a ridiculous and dangerous comment to make...so we're going to start crucifying people for what they THINK? Um...that's frightening.
Possession of child porn is a crime...but there are privacy laws too. I agree that I wouldn't want someone with an interest in child porn to be a scout leader...but I have a hard time stomaching that he's facing charges because someone else has arguably invaded his privacy. Fixing someone's computer does not necessarily give them the right to examine the HD's contents. |
this isn't just thinking any little thing. this is a dangerous sickness that is likely to ruin lives. at LEAST 50% of those found
with child porn have committed acts of sexual abuse. i'm going to go
out on a limb and say the rest were works in progress.
while it looks as though they ransacked his PC, these pics could have easily been on the desktop, in the documents menu, etc. remember, this guy had child porn on his computer, and took it in for repair. not the sharpest box in the tack.
i'm sorry if my views aren't shared by all. i'm one of the most diverse peopel you'll even meet. i'll never prejudge someone based on race, creed, skin color, gender, sexual preference, looks, body style, or anything of the like. but this is just too wrong. |

How can one person be diverse? Are you like... a Frankenstein with different body parts sewn together from some mainland Chinese, west African, American, French, and Greek dudes? :p
Let's also try not to confuse statutory rape (sex with someone who is below the age of consent, which by the way is 14 here, not 17 or 18) with actual rape (nonconsentual sex). While I do agree with everyone here that sodomizing a child is morally wrong, I've also come to realize that this belief is mostly a byproduct of a religious society that's tried to shelter its children from sex.
I think almost everybody above age 10 in today's world has been exposed to sex on TV and such and knows what it entails, so even though I can't shake the wave of nausea I get when hearing about child porn (or worse, child rape), I also don't see much of a fundamental or logical basis for the whole "age of consent" thing. There is a question of where to draw the line, which is evident by the fact that every country has chosen a different age (the U.S. says 18 - so if an 18 year old screws a 17 year old, it's statutory rape, does that sound right??).
Anyway, I'm certainly not defending this pervert, especially not if he took advantage of any children. But I think it's important to realize that we don't have all the details yet and to look at the issue rationally - people are innocent until proven guilty. While I suppose there is already proof that he was in possession of the material, that is a far less serious crime than actually molesting these kids. For such staunch defenders of free expression (re: gay marriages and so on), you're pretty quick to crucify this guy. |

| Maybe in theory it's a 'lesser crime', but this guy had such an EXTENSIVE collection of these things- we're talking thousands, many were videoclips lasting 20-30 mins depicting graphic horrors against children. Bottom line is, this guy GETS OFF to this , and if there's one thing society can agree on, is that promoting or participating pedophelia of ANY kind is the lowest of the low. Those convicted of such crimes are also the ones who get raped and killed and jail from the get-go. Even hardened criminals can agree with the rest of society on this matter. (And when one of these sickos gets shanked to death in jail, we ALL are happy the earth is rid of them). |

| well wat an idiot. if he knew about the images, why the hell would he take it into a repair shop? thats wat u call stupid criminals. but again i disagree that someone should be punished if they have possession, i mean like when u surf the net, alot of the porn links are spam nd some have viruses that feed C.P. into ur CPU, nd sometimes they never go away unless you know how to delete everything. they need evidence for this guy that he possessed those images, otherwise they should let him go. i dont think he should be charged just bcuz his computer had C.P. but w/e hes stupid to walk into the repair shop .:whip: |

Dude- they already HAVE the evidence. Otherwise, he wouldnt have been charged. The fact that he'[s a boy scout leader even adds to the fact- many child porn scumbags work in fields that involve being around kids at all time, which is what's so scary about them. They're hunters, just waiting for their prey.
Might I remind u, that there probably isn't ONE SINGLE case of a 'reformed pedophile' on the entire planet. They're sick ******s. |

sorry...no offense to you personally...but you're talking out of your ass. Show me one statistic, one shread of evidence at all, that supports your 50% theory. That's complete bull. To say the rest were "works in progress"...um, sure
I'm not "supporting" child porn. Far from it. It's wrong. It's illegal. People that produce it should face serious consequences. But to suggest that because someone possesses it, they must be an abuser, or future abuser...that's simply not true and a dangerous generalization. It's one thing to call someone a "perv"...quite another to suggest that they abuse children... |

The whole reason that POSSESION of child pornography is illigal is because in order for the pornography to excist children must have been hurt and because of this those who have the pornography are supporting just that, the hurting and raping of children, which is just as wrong as those who do it themselves |

Well, there's no way you could ever reform in the US when you have to stick it on every job you ever apply to you're a convicted sex offender...Aside from that, unless you can present evidence, I'm pretty sure there have been sex offenders who've reformed and with help have been able to lead lives without abusing children.
This person probably tried to delete all the images on their computer and whatnot before sending it in as well...no one is dumb enough to send a computer full of child porn into a repair shop and give them permission to do anything they want with it (unless they want to be caught). From what I've known about the people in computer repair, they'll sometimes go out of their way to scan the deleted contents of your hard drive even if there is no reason to (even larger companies like Verizon).
Of course, the repair shop people'll probably be branded as heroes for removing another pervert from the street...but do you really want people looking through all your personal information when you send them a computer to fix? It's difficult to detect if anyone's been sorting through your hard drive for information, and they could easily nab things like passwords, bank account numbers, credit card numbers, etc... |
